sensative hearing
Sometimes it is the strangest noises that drive me nuts, like the sound of someone chewing food is absolutely disgusting to me, especially if it is someone who chews with their mouth open. Other times it can be as little someone slapping their own hand against their knee, it just sounds so sharp and horrible to me, they might as well be slapping inside my head, that is what it feels like.
A friend has three lassie dogs that bark when someone comes over, and I almost cannot stand to come to their house because I will have to come in, and be surrounded by the horror of three shrill dogs barking at me (they're really nice dogs when they stop barking and I have no problem with them when they aren't barking) . It is hard to explain why I can't come over because the dogs absolutely hurt my head to the point that I dread having to be near them.
Finding out that I have unusually sensitive hearing has helped me, and wearing earplugs as often as I want has helped, it is just nice to know I can try to have a little bit of control and help myself by wearing earplugs. It is a relief to be able to tolerate normal activities when I have earplugs in, I can still hear what is going on but it is not as draining to me because I don't have to work so hard filtering out the layers of noises.
