I tell peoplke that I have As in case of situations like this so they understand. I was still honest and I said despite my issues I would go for her sake if she wants. I wont be saying anymore about it the balls in her court.

I don't think you should fret over it, but since you are asking I'd say it was not the right time to be so honest. The thing to focus on in this situation would be the friend's feelings about her mom and not the mom herself. And funerals are really for the living, the dead person is beyond caring.
