It's probably just because of the cheesy doctor scenes that are in porn.

Oh yes, I've seen some down right strange medical themed pics there that just scream WTF fetish. The person who does them isn't even that good either so that just makes it even more WTF.

Little children "playing doctor" (carefully in private, of course) because it's okay to take your pants off at the doctor's office, for examination! I was such a weird kid I never wanted to play, but came home and told on them. :o( No wonder I wasn't liked!

Hi MM. Nice artwork. You have quite a talent. I guess I don't see anything fetish about your stuff. It all seems pretty innocent to me, even the doctor/vet scenes. But then again, I know you love LK & want to be a vet. Maybe people at DA are reading too much into your work?

Actualy it was only one person who accused my picture of being "fetishy". It just made me curious.

Someone else there wants me to do a pic of my fursona and her fursona using chilli dogs to bribe Sonic to go to the vet's. I was going to do my fursona (the white meerkat, cat thing as the vet but after being told my pictures seemed "fetishy" I was hesitant. That person can just go jump in a lake.

OK....to answer your question a fetish could be considered a special interest, but a special interest is not always a fetish. A fetish would be having some kind of sexual preference attached like guys who like feet or womens' underwear. Like I said, I see nothing that would scream fetish about your artwork. :-)

My examples would be my personal special interests: I love photography, learning about AS, & reading, but I don't attach anything sexual to any of them.

The only picture I did that had a sexual theme I deleted a long time ago. None of my vet/doctor pics were created with the intention to be sexual. I think the person who said that has no concept of an autistic special intrest and is just a douche.

Some people are just really weird (even by AS standards). If it was only one person, I think you should ignore him/her.

Oh don't worry I will. I had shrugged it off as soon as that person made that comment but I was just curious if my pictures looked "fetishy". By that person's standard, something someone does frequent is a fetish. I bet he/she'd think my pics of characters in dinners sharing a milkshake are fetishy too. I 've only done one pic like that but I want to do some of Sonic and Sally. I've seen it done with Amy a few times, but so far no one has done it with him and Sally.

merriam webster's collegiate dictionary says any obsession is a fetish. it mentions a sexual fetish way down in the fourth definition. you would have to ask the person who made the comment how they were using "fetish".

I sometimes browse DA for fun (I don't have an account there though), and I come across a lot of artists who draw fetish pics. You can just tell that there's a sexual intent behind them somehow. But when I see your artwork MagicMeerkat, that thought never even crosses my mind.

I know for a fact that people throw the word "fetish" around to describe anything someone does a lot that they personally don't like. For example, in a recent thread on overrated actors in the TV & Movies Forum, somebody said Johnny Depp was overrated and that he's Tim Burton's fetish. I know that that isn't true because Tim is in love with Helena Bonham Carter and has two children with her, and there is no evidence to suggest that his feelings for Johnny are anything but friendly/brotherly. I know that that person on the Internet just said that Johnny is Tim's fetish because he stars in a lot of his movies (7, 8 if you already want to count Dark Shadows).

So basically that person just said that drawing vet pics is your fetish because you draw it a lot and it's something they personally don't like. It's not true - it's just a word that gets misused and abused a lot, like "gay" or "ret*d".

Tell me about it. There are some very nice drawings on DA, but I sometimes feel uncomfortable looking at them because of that sexual intent (especially if it's a fetish that I don't have). Yes I do have fetishes of my own and enjoy art about them, but sometimes I just want to look at nice non-sexual art.

I see nothing wrong with mixing two interests in your art. I guess including art that would make 3. To me, it's very clever.

My creative writing mixes at least a dozen of my other interests. I am a special interest hoarder.

What would people think of my sci-fi that is strong in autism, neuroscience, other medical conditions, the US air force, astronomy (especially heliophysics), primeval dragon/dinosaurs, internet and videogames, and art? There's some Australian music scene int here too. And Akita Inus.

None of my pics are created with sexual intent. I've heard that Vincent Price is the "star of Tim Burton wet dreams". The same person also was doing a review of a Steven King mini series and when we learned the plane was going to have to land in Maine, he says: "Maine! I know we're not playing the Steven King drinking game, but I have to take a drink to that! Uh, what is it with your fetish with that place?"

I think I might go ahead and ask that person what they meant when they accused my art of being "fetishy". If they give me a bunch of BS, I'll just brush it off and figure this person has no expirence with autism.
