There is a difference in the amount of personal space people "need" in different cultures. It's been studied.

I think I heard somehwere that Germans prefer a few more inches than North Americans.

If someone gets too close to me I'll back away from them. If somebody actually bumps me in any way I'll give them a look that says, "what the f**k, man!".

Also, they will stand in front of something everyone wants (like eggs, for example) and not move while people are literally bending all over the place trying to get to the item.

I go to my mother's Christmas party at work every year so I can get free shrimp and salmon. One really annoying thing people do there is get their food and then stand and chat so close to the food tables that they are blocking others from getting food. They should go sit at a table or stand somewhere out of the way.

In regards to blocking things... the people who have group conversations in the middle of a hallway are some of the most annoying people on earth :? I mean, have some consideration!! !

And then I'm standing there looking at them, not wanting to interrupt or yell over them "EXCUSE ME!" so I just wait right outside their circle... for like 5 minutes until I finally decide I have to just shoulder through. ><

I was walking through the old Waccamaw Pottery Outlet at Myrtle Beach, SC years ago during a relatively busy time. A woman pushing a shopping cart kept hitting my heels with the bottom part of the shopping cart. I thought the first couple or three times might have been accidental, but after 4 times---come on. I took my foot, placed it against the shopping cart, and pushed it into her nice and hard. She didn't do it anymore.

I have a friend who does this. She's awesome but this really bugs me. The other day when she did it I took an obvious, big step backwards, but I don't know if she got it. I'll probably have to tell her about it some time soon.

Same. She's really, really lovely, but she sometimes doesn't understand that I don't want her to stand RIGHT in front of me. :?

Oh, and I'm talking about Asian people from Asia, not Asian-Americans. I'm not being racist, I'm noting what is probably a cultural difference. I would guess there's less space and more jostling in grocery stores in Asia. What I don't understand is how they don't notice all the pizzed-off looks they get

Not racist at all. You're just explaining a point what is probably typically true.

I also hate it when I'm standing with my friend and she's looking for something for ages, and I'm standing next to her trying to help her look, then suddenly someone creeps up from behind me and reaches their arm out to grab something what I'm directly standing right in front of, and I never see anyone needing to reach an item what is next to my friend. It actually happens to me 90 percent and my friend 5 percent. I think it's Murphy's Law, which makes me pretty angry because it's always against me (Murphy's Law doesn't come when I do the lottery!! !) Next time I'm hovering about waiting for my friend to make her mind up on which item to get, I feel like handing the item what I'm standing in front of to the person approaching my direction and saying, ''here you are - I'm guessing you want this, since I'm standing next to it!''

OK, can't start being sarcastic, but it makes me feel like doing it. And it'd probably work! Then nobody will have to stand right in my space any more.
