I had to stand still for 60 seconds 4 times in about 4 hours for a medical test, when I found out I couldn't even move my fingers or toes as it risked moving my whole body and messing up the test, I told her it was hard and I don't know if I can do it, and she went "It's only 60 seconds, don't be so dramatic!" I wish I'd had the official autism and ADHD diagnosis then lol. I also twitch when I stay still. The longer I'm still, the bigger the twitches get, GAH!

I have muscle tics constantly. I made it about a half second, and then my leg was like, "Still? Lolnope."

I was just about the ask the OP if zoning-out like a statue is "cheating," because I do that numerous times every day.

I was much figety-er when I was younger, though. I can recognize that suffocating/exploding feeling people are talking about when you hold it in.

But nowadays, because when my health got messed up my energy level dropped, that is lot less than it used to be. It's been an ironic benefit, in a way. (But lately I've been enjoying the pleasure of restless syndrome at night due to a med I take. Holy crap, RLS sucks.)

I made it to 40 seconds before my fingers did a dance.

I blinked after 10. Does that count as moving?

I tried this and zoned out like a statue. I am in fact trying to fight zoning out due to a ton of overload and overwhelm today, and a lack of said overload stopping.

Damn that was hard.
I could feel my fingers and toes trying to move; I had to consciously suppress them the whole time.

Could not manage it.

In my case of ADHD, the H is more emphasized

Completely still? No, I absolutely can't do it.
I can sit and think to myself quietly for long periods of time, but I am always stimming one way or another, whether noticeably or not.

Yeah, I tried again and zoned out too. I think "zoning out" is visual stimming.

This kind of zoning out happens to me when I'm being overloaded and skating the edge of a shutdown - I actually had a total shutdown a bit later and slept for a few hours as well.

I do think zoning out can be stimmy, just giving context for what kind of state I was in. When I get to that point I start freezing in place, sometimes for a few minutes, sometimes for much longer.

I tried again just now, and made it to 25 seconds before I couldn't hold back anymore and stimmed madly. Those 25 seconds were hell.

I could do it but all through the 60 minutes, my eyes were all, "blink-blink-blink-blinkety-blink-blinkblinkblinkblink-blink-blink-blink-blink-blink" to compensate for not moving anything else.

Yeah, I meant, 60 seconds, not 60 minutes....although it would be interesting to see if I could sit still for an hour.

I can do it for one minute, and I can do it for longer. I don't have ADHD though.

I have come to believe that it is actually mental stimming. The only time I am able to actually sit still is when my brain is in high gear. I can sit completely still if I just allow myself to move one muscle group, like a finger or a toe, but if I try to stop everything the twitching starts. As Christopherwillson said, I get a feeling or vibrating in my head, or rather, for me, it intensifies from the usual buzzing

If I mentally "stim" by feeling my energy moving around in my head, or forcing myself to think rapidly, I can totally stop my body. Unfortunately I also stop breathing and I am afraid to know what other functions are shut off. I once felt where my heart was in my chest, felt the muscles that moved it, and forced them to flex. My heart beat three times on command, I felt/heard three unnatural clicking sounds in my head, and stopped immediately. I have not tried again since.

Anyway, it feels as though my voluntary and involuntary muscles are somehow linked. My breathing is very forced, and I often stop breathing with one or both lungs when I have to move quickly or when distracted. I frequently have to force myself to relax the muscles around my stomach because it feels like it's about to jump out of my throat. This last one is probably a result of all the ritalin I was forced to consume as a child.
