I agree that Facebook and probably G+ are evil, but I also know (and know of) quite a few autistic people who make use of social networking sites simply because it's easier than managing a lot of face to face interactions. It's not just for NTs.
I'm NT (though at the introvert end of introvert) and wild horses ouldn't drag me onto Facebook, Twitter etc (I don't know what Google+ is). I use email to stay in contact with my admittedly small number of friends and some relatives. And visits and some phonecalls. Small amounts of snail mail. That's it. I value my privacy above many other things.
I understand that digital communication may be helpful to Aspies (perhaps less scary) but I feel it's a bit of a cop out. If it helps, great. If you live a long way from your friends, great. I just don't think it's a substitute for real, face to face contact.
Trappedinhell, I understand you need social media to make money (I don't know what you do/sell). I think you are right, ultimately the companies who run these sites (WP is an exception) want your data. Running the social platform is a sideshow.
From the effect sites like Facebook seem to have on people I do not think they're a good thing at all. Among other things the concept of what it means to be or have a friend is being devalued to the point of near-irrelevance.
