Aspies fluent in factanese?
ok I'm slow, aren't I....But thanks for explaining.
ETA: I thought it was more about inserting facts, like you did about the atoms (you DID say atoms, then added a fact about them...), sort of related.
Because that's something I do, as NTs seem to be just as random, and changing topics every 5 minutes (going from discussing politics to politicians to different countries to their country to the country they'd rather be living in to....The weather in florida. Or something.) . Relying on a single word to inject a fact about that word when the word in question was not even related to the primary conversation (like your atoms) is something I do. Not the favourite colour, though. I don't even have a favourite colour ![]()
Definitely for me. My neighbor, he's a 55 year old guy, he likes working on cars and similar stuff as me. He's dyslexic, and he has a very hard time "verbally" knowing stuff, and having "book" knowledge. Me, he said he loves listening to me talk, (he also rambles on like me, too, but he's old, so he can do that, haha) as I have so much book knowledge about everything. He told me I should become a teacher, as the way I explain things, I have the ability to explain things out so well, and to make sure that people understand them. Like, if people are willing to like, listen to me, I'm generally able to teach them well if they're willing to listen. I've actually taught someone before when I was high school aged, how to add and subtract with carrying, which a teacher/tutor actually gave up trying to teach him (he was actually a 16 year old guy with Aspergers, the first real life DXed Aspie I've met.)
So yeah, my neighbor was saying my "factanese" was a huge gift and all this stuff' and that I was a genius. For me, I just get the most satisfaction from teaching people stuff. It's great. I love to be able to pass information along to others, as I feel like they need to know what I'm telling them and all that. So, while it seems sometimes like I'm rambling on to people, usually I'm genuinely concerned about them getting the information I'm trying to give them so they can better their life with it. So I get sad when people just don't want to hear it, but it's been really cool the fewer times, when people do listen to me, as they genuinely appreciate what I've told them, and you can see how it's helped them concretely.
Like I remember one time, I'm trying to be a figure skater, and I saw this dude on hockey skates. We talked for a bit, and somehow or another, he said his skates were dull. He also said he doesn't like getting them sharpened because they always feel too grabby. I told him about skate ROH, how the blades are sharpened, all that, we had a 15 minute conversation about it, where I drew out how the blades were sharpened ' etc. Told him he should get a shallower hollow, probably 3/4 or so. He was kind of slow to "get it" but he kept asking me questions and I kept telling him how to do stuff. He wanted to be sure he got what I saying, and I did, too. He was super happy I told him what I told him, though. Generally, it doesn't work like that, I'll tell people stuff, and they'll be like "whatever." But, I keep doing what I do because of the satisfaction I get when things like that happen.
