+1 here. There is no "one size fits all" Aspergers definition. I'm awkward or invisible in social situations, but I can be very sarcastic when in the mood.

Count me in, so that makes at least three sartistics.

I can understand sarcasm fairly well, even if it takes me slightly longer to get it, and I'm frequently use it myself.

Yes, Heather Kuzmich has actually been confirmed for AS, but it's the reason she is famous.

Adam Young, the creator of Owl City
Ladyhawke, a singer from New Zealand

Thats all I can think of right now.

Maybe not for you, and that's great, but it is for some.

Nope. I'm not. Just sharing my opinion. If ya don't agree with it, don't. It's all fine with me.

TheBrain wrote:
Three: It's about being able to give NT's examples that they can relate to so they don't think that we are aliens.

I actually hadn't thought of that. Don't think anyone's ever given that reason. At least if they did, I missed it. Not a bad reason now that you mention it, if a list could be built that's actually of confirmed Aspies. Speculation I don't think would help with this.

So you did. Good move. Hadn't noticed it. (I've got ADD ya know!)

TheBrain wrote:

Good for you. Neither do I. I'm not sure how I would feel though, if I were NOT Autistic, and people were publicly speculating about whether I were. I might not like it much. Celebrities are people too ya know.

Can't argue with that logic now, can I?

How do you get from "I don't think this kind of list helps," to, "I have low self esteem"? That one really hurts my head.

Because you're OCD, obviously!! ! :P

So am I. I don't really take anything too seriously that shouldn't be. Geez, you should lighten up yourself though. :lmao:

Ten: Seriously, this one's a real sticky wicket. Some of the people that show up on lists like these, you wouldn't want there.

Eleven: Think Hitler had AS? How 'bout Ghengis Kahn? Son of Sam?

Twelve: Just saying...

Thirteen: I just had to put thirteen in there. Maybe some rumors will start that I'm evil.

Seriously though, I have actually seen those, and other similar names show up on lists like this.

That, and it's been done to death. I've never seen anything very productive come of them.

But it's your time so...

knock your self out if you really want to.

I agree. When the need arises to mention my autism to someone, and if they're not really familiar with autism, I like to cite Bill Gates or (believed) Thomas Edison.

Thomas Edison seems to fit ADHD better than autism. I know they aren't mutually exclusive, but the things reported in biographies of him that could be called symptoms are all about how he jumped from thing to thing to thing and couldn't sit still; nothing about social problems.

It's difficult to look back on dead, historical figures and pronounce that they had Autism or Aspergers. It's a nice fantasy, but doesn't mean much in the real world.

I agree that it would be great to have a list of famous and/or successful people who are confirmed Autistics/Aspies. This would be concrete evidence to show NTs that yes, we can do things too. It would also be great to have more well known people who are on the spectrum, "come out" and talk about their Autism.

Einstein was said to not be autistic , but that was most definitely wrong if you look at the brain biopsy and they also propose that he was a sarcastic wit , but autistics cannot comprehend the meaning of the sarcasm on the listener , nor do they understand other's sarcasm. They also say that he had many interests , not in my view , he was mainly interested in a restricted topic but broad topic , mathematical physics.

I'm autistic and I use and understand sarcasm very well.

There are times when I can't tell when others are being sarcastic and I take them literally, but overall I'd say I'm pretty good at detecting it, and I'm probably one of the most sarcastic people you could ever meet. xD

I've found some more:
(not sure if this is a positive though) Courtney Love
Steven Spielberg (There is conflicting information on him, but it looks like he has said that he's been dianosed.)

You know, I have searched and searched to find out where he has said he has Asperger's. I wish I could find it. If anyone can find it---could you let this thread know?

There is a lot more, but there is a lot that say otherwise. It seems the that there is no clear answer, but the ones that say he has it seem to have more varied sources and the ones that say that he doesn't seem to source the same broadcast. Of course none of that means anything.

Is Kanye West an Aspie? Not that I know him, I've just seen him on a South park episode and figured he was Aspie since the creators of South Park usually use real celebrities.

This is the list of confirmed; I skipped the mathematicians and scientists because those are the things that are expected of us. I'm looking for the things that are not steriotypical.

Courtney Love
Heather Kuzmich
Adam Young
Ladyhawke
Clay Marzo
Temple Gradin
Aaron Ducker

Come on, I know that there is more out there.
