Well, if you like the way it sounds keep saying it, but you'll just have to put up with the reaction I fear...

When I first got involved in construction, and as a female, I had to really get over the embarrassment of using this term which in the correct context (ie a building project) is absolutely the right word to use.

However (I don't know where you're from, I can only comment on British English) it is rarely used to refer to the finished building the way you do.

It is almost always used about the building process/activity, such as the process of scaffold erection, or erecting the front elevation, or similar. Those are totally normal words to use but only in this context.

a lot of people tend to snicker or giggle with regard to a word that has a sexual innuendo - erection, cock (as in rooster), titbit - it's pretty immature but some people think it's funny but I have to say most should outgrow it (except my husband who is 38 :))

I get that it's associated with penis but if I was to use a load of expletives in a conversation (eg. words like 'f**k' or, I can't think of any more), nobody would bat an eye lid. So I don't see saying something like, "That's an impressive erection" as a problem. Plus I like the way it sounds anyway.

I am the person who is like....huh? what? You will explain that its some tall structure and then I will start laughing. Then you might get offended
