Occasionally a professional shows up and makes a thread asking a few questions.

Usually, this is along the lines of "Hey, kiddies! Would you like to have fun helping me out? All you have to do is take a fun, fun survey or tell me your life story! I will pay you with gratitude while I get paid with real money, college credits, or both! You'll be performing a great service that will benefit all of humanity and have lots of fun doing so!"

Rarely (if ever) does it happen that any of us are compensated for our contributions. Those professionals seem to come here to exploit us for their own benefit - nothing more.

See if I care. I wouldn't want a reward even if they offered one.

Why would they? They obviously know more about AS than the people who lived with it for their whole lives.

Don't you think this is a little harsh?

Not at all! As the saying goes: "Anything worth doing is worth doing well, and anything worth doing well is worth being paid well to do."

There are lots of students that are required to do some kind of research and that have no resources to "reward" answers or hire a company for a professional survey.

Not my problem.

Just because you think money is the center point of allbof this type of thing doesn't mean everyone does.

Everyhing is worth doing well, but in my opinion, money is way overrated and doesn't help with having better results. People doing things beause they want to and not for monetary rewards tends tp lead to better results. Money is just a near necessary evil to have things like food, housing, and medical care.

I'm an educator and I'm the kind who wants to provide instruction in a manner that is meaningful to the person, as folks on the Spectrum can learn but often have difficulty not with the material, but in the manner in which it is presented. I seek to minimize disability while maximizing the innate potential of the individual. I'm not trying to "fix the person" but rather fix the problems encountered. I don't advocate "curing" anybody.

Sadly I know I am in the majority but as a consultant now, it's my goal to convert the NT teaching masses.

Had the diagnosis been available in my childhood, I'm sure I would have gotten a dx of Asperger Syndrome. Lord knows my folks took me to the doctor to try to find out what was "wrong" with their otherwise very intelligent child.

You have got to be kidding? These professionals are working their tails off for 40+ hours a week. This board is ridiculous tryng to sort the whining, the cluelessness and the overall general silly stuff from the good content. NTs are not like us wrt sorting though large volumes of data.

I post threads from this board to my ASD page which is read my a number of professionals. This gives them pointers to this board to specific threads that I think have actual good content for them to read. This would take them hours to do and the return would not be worth it for them.

THAT is why the professionals do not read here. But I agree if we could get rid of all the chaff and somehow get the grain to some folder it would be VERY useful....

Well they should. That's the first step to breaking the stereotype...
