I struggle with this. This is what I perceive, from my 'unique' point of view, even though it is tangential with what you have described in perfect detail: people are willing to let others into their group, and only judge if that person doesn't give them the security the group desires. This favors the stability for the group. It seems as though the development of these skills was a step in the evolution of human beings. Some of the behaviors in humans are similar to other organisms as well. Birds communicate through body language by establishing boundaries, and when they perceive changes, they re-group in a different location and re-establish those boundaries. Human beings share this mechanism, which is a higher order cognitive development. Would Aspies have survived in primitive situations just as equally? Or would we have been singled out for our differences in favor of natural selection? It seems as though we continue to find our way back into the pool, but encounter ridicule and rejection that causes us to retreat into our own world. This is how we survive, through solitude and escape, not by choice, but for our sense of self-preservation.
