Another Autism "documentary" in the works

It's actually accepted for use with brain injuries-stroke victims. I never saw positive results with geriatric stroke victims, but it was certainly highly regarded. Anectdotal evidence was temporary alertness and memory recall. Because it's an alternative therapy for autistics, you will see people using the large chambers (like the size of a closet, the parent can sit with them inside) and portable "toys" that are privately sold for home use. Those are like big helmets.

I think parents have to proceed very carefully here because there can be a very thin line between what is constructively therapeutic to putting autistic kids through unnecessary "torture" that achieves nothing or makes matters worse.

We should be considering better services for parents of more seriously autistic children rather that parents being left on their own devices and at the mercy of quacks and charlatans who are only in it for monetary gain.
Often they have to mortgage their home and their marriage breaks up because some quack in Tahiti or some other remote out of the way place claims he has a cure for severe autism and laughs all the way to the bank.

The parents should be made to read "Wellsville" before watching this...

Science based on the misconception that if something is good for humans and the lack of it kills humans then=Oxygen is good for humans then a lot of oygen must be great for humans is flawed science.Further proof that this world is truely insane and the patients are in charge of the psyc ward.

Iam just as autistic as many of those low funtion kids. The complusive jigging, pacing, running from nowhere to nowhere, hand flapping, frustrations, obsessions, self harming, parroting people, introverted personality etc.
The only difference is I am verbal and can talk about them.
So IMHO if any so called "expert" claims he/she has a "cure" for your child's autism then find somebody else.

I agree. ABA, the most used and recommended behavioral therapy (I'll leave my criticism of that for another time) can cost upwards of $5000 per month. It's ridiculous.

These parents are desperate enough to try ANYTHING. And in part, I think that's a fault of the parent/media environment, whose ideas are basically the only things they're subjected to and which promote all this propoganda of hopelessness and desperation and fighting the "horrors" of autism.

Were the world a little different, with acceptance and finding the good in a difficult situation, I think a fair portion of these parents would be appalled at their own behaviors. And would actually feel a greater sense of support and community and hope, learning to enjoy who their kids really are instead of mourning over who they're not.

Sophist - I agree and you bring an especially good point about alot of parents being overwhelmed with information about curing their kids and very little about understanding and acceptance. Or even about autism in general for that matter because history has been rewritten by some of these cure group and "facts" are presented that just aren't true.
