The things that happen in my life are not so outstanding that people would not believe it.
But, there is related problem that bugs me - people don't take things seriously when I tell them and it seems that they cannot understand when I try to stress out that something is important.

I say: ''This and that is going to happen''
and they say: ''No, it won't, you're just being silly''

It isn't a lie, because saying that something will happen implies that there is no existing underlying fact and lie is distortion of fact. But, on the other hand, it is an attitude of others that I err in my judgement and they don't believe my conclusions are correct.

I am rather paranoid about not being believed, even when I'm telling the truth (which is the majority of the time). It causes me to explain myself too much, which in turn, means that the person is even less likely to believe me. So yes, it can turn into a vicious cycle.

I've also had plenty of experiences where I tell someone how I am feeling and they don't believe me. It's especially true when I get sick or when I'm in pain, since I look just about the same. It's also a problem when I'm trying to identify myself and prove that I am who I say I am. I still dread talking on the phone for that reason.

I think this fear of not being believed is one reason that I'm obsessed with crime fiction. I know I'd fail pretty badly if I ever had to be interviewed by a detective if they were relying solely on body language and other cues.

I've always been the same way as most of the posters in this thread.

I like to say I have a "debilitating sense of honesty"

I hate it when people think I'm lying.

I've had the manager of a grocery store refuse to let me buy my groceries because she was sure I was trying to shoplift in addition to the $100+ of food I wanted to buy. =/ I wasn't doing anything weird, just going isle by isle with my list like I always do. She insisted I empty my pockets...which I did...and when I wasn't hiding anything, she called the cops! The cops said she didn't have to let me buy my groceries there, but they wouldn't arrest me for shoplifting without evidence. I was banned from the store, and they put a security photo of me by all the registers with big black letters that said "SHOPLIFTER! Call manager if seen" so all the checkers would know not to sell to me. WTF????

I'm not a lawyer or legal expert of any sort, but that sounds like the kind of thing a person could sue over - not the part about being banned, because anyone can be banned from private property for any reason, as long as it's not a civil rights issue or something. I mean, being personally banned, even if it's just because somebody doesn't like you, is probably legal. But they put up your name and picture in public and alleged that you're a criminal, without any evidence, let alone a conviction. Isn't that libel? They did it for the express purpose of presenting your character in a damaging way, so as to restrict you from doing something normal (shopping) that others are allowed to do, so this curtails your ordinary, everyday activity in a way that is unwarranted and different from what legally happens to others who have not been convicted of crimes. So, I think they're breaking the law. But you'd have to be able to afford a lawyer and have a copy of the picture as evidence, and probably have a copy of the police report to show they found no evidence of wrongdoing on your part. And I'm not expecting that everybody can do that, so I won't be surprised if you say it's beyond your means. It would also involve more interaction with others than you might want, and in ways that might be very uncomfortable. I know I would find that really hard, and I might seriously question if it were worth all the trouble. So, basically, the store is really able to take advantage so that they can mistreat you. That sucks!! !

When I started this thread, I had no idea how bad this was for so many of us. My problems look small to me now, by comparison to what's happened to some of you. It's shocking to me to learn what a big problem this has been, though it also makes me feel less alone when I think of my own struggles. I'll remember this as I deal with my doctor and others concerning my suspicion that I do, indeed, have Asperger's.

I used to be concerned with always having the right answer, but not any more. It seems that being right is not as important as making others feel good by telling them what they want to hear.

I've been telling my co-workers that certain RF gear should be tested and installed in a certain way - as described in the manuals - so as to minimize failures and down-time. For instance, a simple VSWR vs. Power test into a dummy load will reveal a defective transmitter section, while performing the same test with the transmitter connected to its antenna system will reveal faults within the system as well. They either refuse to believe me, or they just don't care - after all, it takes a little extra time and effort to pre-test a system before installation. I've even offered to do the tests for them, but they turn me down, relying instead on "luck" and the integrity of the RF vendor.

Then when the system fails, they expect me to trouble-shoot it for them, no matter what time of day or day of the week.

What good is being right and telling the truth, when nobody believes you or even cares to listen?

I've read that being honest is a typical symptom of AS but what does it mean if I'm the opposite? I'm hardly ever accused of lying because, for the most part, I do tell the truth. However I like to lie, mostly when buying things I like to knock a few pence off or add a few pence on to it if I tell someone how much it cost. I'll claim I ate more or less than I have "I don't know who ate the last 7 biscuits, I only had 4" So I'm still honest for most stuff and I rarely lie to gain something I just do it because I like to. Any idea what that means?

You have also claimed to be less moral than most aspies.

This happens to me too.
