I'm affected by the emotions of others, but it always seemed like my expressiveness always had 1/5th the intensity of the average person's expressiveness so it might not seem like it. Also, yes, I cognitively process the emotions if the person is unfamiliar and it's not easy to figure out but my emotional response tends to be pretty quick, intuitive and responsive if the person is someone I'm familiar with.

I have been in a lot of situations where everyone else is upset, like when a family member had to go to the hospital, and I would be the only person who was calm. I've even been accused of being "coldhearted" because of that. I am not unaffected by the situation itself but I just don't have an immediate emotional reaction. And when others get emotional about it, it doesn't affect me. I definitely don't want to huddle with them and "share the emotion".
