i have almost-daily ocular migraines.
i used to have migraines with pain and had to take Tylenol with codeine+gravol on most days. i took regular trips to the hospital to get a shot of something too - i have no idea what it was. the pain would be so severe and i was so disoriented that i could not make sense of what was going on. a couple of times i lost consciousness during a migraine attack, but i don't know if it was from the pain (i describe it as a brainfreeze that won't stop. i'm sure all of you know what i am talking about) or from some other aspect.
eventually i started taking Zomig/zolmitriptan, which worked to a degree but it was unsafe for me to take long-term as i have high blood pressure.
which led me to a treatment that sort of worked for me.... beta-blockers. they help both my high blood pressure and have effectively prevented migraines... in a way. turns out i am still getting migraines almost every day, but they are usually painless. i always get an aura (for me it is sparks or fireworks) and sometimes i also have other symptoms like tingling in my face/hands/shoulders, dizziness, tiredness, reduced mental faculties (i get stupid and don't make much sense), etc. occasionally i have a bit of pain and even more rarely i have a lot of pain, but it's only about once a month now.
the optometrist calls them Ophthalmic Migraines or Ocular Migraines. i don't enjoy them but they are infinitely preferable to migraines with pain, so i deal with it as well as i can. .
