Is this discussion about "high functioning autism" or "high functioning asperger's"?
Does "high functioning asperger's" as a definition exist or is it "mild asperger's", but I don't really know, what is referred to in this post, because it just says "high functioning".
Confused.

this interesting as I can pull off NT and even come off as charming and have got every job iv been interviewed for because of this but after doing this INTENSE social exercise for so long my mind snapped and I spent the last 6 years alone recharging and although I can see people for a few days a week/month and charm the pants off them I NEED to be alone most of the time and since it took 5 years to recover from the last one what does that make me if I could talk my way into any job but not keep it?

I think Joe90, kx250rider & Tuttle come closest to what I think "High Functioning" is. :)

Since it is one of those "liquid truth" or "free floating symbols" in the social model of NTs depicted by Ian Ford in A Field Guide To Earthlings, it's definitely hard to tell what exactly it is. Everyone can have their own definition, rightly.

I think HF ranges from being able to do basic self care and being verbal most of the time to successful people like John-Elder Robison, Ian Ford, Sean Barron and - probably - Bill Gates. Having a family and being able to work is probably the two most important benchmarks of being a "successful HFA". Quality also counts, of course. On this scale my position is 2/3 - 1/3, closer to the "higher" end. I have a job, can drive, I'm fairly independent, but I suck at romantic relationships, I need to be close to my parents and I have a friend who supports me with questions of my life that I can't hande all by myself (social problems at my work and relationships).

Note: You can't imagine how individual opinions affect me sometimes... Finally I've decided that I will take what the psychs told me with a huge grain of salt... So I guess I indeed belong. I'll post now and then. 8)

(I just discovered America, count = 1492)

Autism with a normal IQ score (which almost always equals a relatively intact verbal IQ score). It was first mentioned by researchers who used it to differentiate by IQ scores in studies (before Asperger's was a diagnostic entity).

That's it.
