Introversion= unintelligent?

I'm sure I've read somewhere that intelligence and introversion are positively correlated.

This is about as surprising as seeing the sun come up in the morning. It should be noted that this is a psychology class. The professor is considered at least something of an expert by the other psychology professionals, and the students will be diagnosing and counseling aspies if the professor and his colleagues judge them to be intelligent enough.

CanyonWind,

Depends on what type of psychology class it is. If it is psych 101, then most of those students are simply there for the liberal arts credits that they are required to take and do not care about the material.

Yes, that's an important point, but I still think they're a bunch of yo-yos.

I wouldn't generalize... the people who made that list (in the first post) are likely the most vocal people in the room--that is, the extroverts. The introverts might have been watching and musing privately about the whole thing, not really feeling as though they needed to contribute.

(Not all introverts are quiet in class; I'm an introvert and I like asking and answering questions in class. But I'm assuming most introverts don't like to speak in public.)

At great expense and inconvenience, I had detailed personality testing in the 1970's and I recall the report had measures for spatial, logical, and linguistic intelligence. I believe you can score very high in one and poorly in another.

I know a number of idiots with PhD's :?

Does your class discuss different types of intelligence?

This is a psychology 101 class with a new professor fresh from ten years of working in/with corporate america.

This is a pit class with 235 people, most of whom are freshmen.

It was pretty bizzare to watch this unfold, The professor's not bad or anything. Usually the class is pretty somber, but he told the story about his PhD advisor and things took on a life of their own. It seems to me like this wasn't something he had planned.

Heard mentality doesnt have to be "planned" it is an organism with its own agenda...perpetuation of the status quo

In my opinion, Intelligence is the ability to assimilate information(patterns), process the data in as many permutations as possible, and to disseminate by action what is best for all. Theoreticaly, If one can process enough information, eventual outcomes may be determined. This is also inversely true, in the sense that if the pattern can be identified, it can also be restructured. Their is no definitive difference between "seeing the future" in the common psychic sense and "seeing the future" based on available info. These ideas become more complex when the concept of quantum physics on a macroscopic scale come into the picture. Yet they are mutually compatible. To simplify, intelligence is the ability to percieve and alter the environment in such a way that benefits all in a synergistic or symbiotic relationship.

That is so rediculous.

Your professor is ridiculous for not correcting them.

Social intelligence is just one kind of many , many different kinds of intelligence. Didn't you discuss the eight types of intelligence?? Gardner's eight kinds of intelligence:

Bodily-kinesthetic (athletic people could be classified under this one)
Interpersonal ( social intelligence)
Musical
Naturalist
Logical-mathematical
Verbal-linguistic
Spacial
Intrapersonal (knowing yourself - applies to more introverted and thoughtful people)

Do a google search for gardner's eight types of intelligence if you want to know more.

Better yet show this information to your professor even if you leave it anonymously under his door or something. This is basic Psych 101 info that should be taught!!

All of these seem to be dependent on pattern recognition and neural response. I suppose that this is obvious to most though. Even though intelligence may be broken down into groups, I believe attempting to improve our cognition will create a cascadic effect on all of our faculties.
