Yeah, the issue with stimulants in a non-clinical setting is that controlled dosage goes out the window and the ingestion methods get more creative.

For me, Ritalin seemed to be way more effective when I was a kid than it is now that I'm an adult. Regardless if ADHD drugs are approved for adults, I think they probably work better for kids.

This disscussion over the effects of stimulants like Adderall really doesn't help me people

I don't understand this, why would hyperactive people be given meds that stimulate them?

Because the ADHD brain is underaroused. It stays in alpha or theta during activities most people would be producing beta waves. It is like being half asleep, or in a trance state. Read this: http://www.qeeg.com/adhd.html

Think about way people act when they have to stay up much later than usual, and they are trying really hard to stay awake. Some people will start talking more loudly, or running around and acting silly to stimulate themselves so they can stay alert. Other people will just get very quiet and slow to react to things.

ADHD is a misnomer. It's not really an attention disorder, and it's not really a hyperactivity disorder. The underlying problem is disinhibition. The inhibitory systems of the brain don't work as well. So it makes you more impulsive and easily distracted. Impulsivity can manifest in a lot of different ways, not just hyperactivity.

Well, depending on which symptoms or behaviours are an issue, popular other treatments for adults are:

- a coach who (for a fixed period) helps with organising everyday life and tries to teach you to do it yourself
- psychotherapy to... no idea, to learn about what AD(H)D is and how to cope with co-morbid disorders such as depression or anxiety?
- trying to learn how to improve organisation (with or without support from a coach or therapist)

So how many things have you been diagnosed with now?
