They don't hate on them but think they are strange.

Yes some people tell me I need to grow up because of some of my interests which is hurtful but its my life. I'm happy with my special interests

My main special interest has gone by many names over the years. Homesteading, self-sufficiency, survivalism, prepping, whatever you want to call it, I like knowing how to do everything from scratch. And I mean everything! I get lectured a lot about how I must be paranoid, how pointless it is to learn such things, "Why would anybody need to know ______?!?" or "The world's never going to end, so you're just wasting your time!"

Well, I don't care if I never need this knowledge, I happen to enjoy learning it!

The irony is that I've only talked about The Kinks around that scum bucket, once. I'm afraid to talk about my special interests around those members of my generation.

I've had that too people making remarks because I like ABBA they would say "but they don't sing anymore" I usually say "Well people still like the Beatles and they"re not around anymore"
If anyone says anything even jokingly I get a bit testy.

I haven't had it with cats though thank goodness.
I do get testy if I hear anyone saying about cats killing birds as I think the biggest threat to wildlife is deforestation by People of course.

IdahoRose I like some of Tim Burtin's films especially Corpse Bride & Edward scissorhands they were my favourites.

The majority of the people of my generation are a lot nicer, though. They don't mind my special interests at all, or as I'm proudly going to coin it tonight - my Kinks fixation - I've liked them for 28 years now.

Pardon me. After being knocked down for 37 years, I need a little pride in my life.

Well that is the reality when I tried to explain what constitutes as "fun" by nt standards| to a member eg such as watching frightened and dispirited animals preform ("fun parks") on command mindlessly cheering and clapping as they chow down their $ 22 misery burgers etc etc I was accused by a member as being a charmer also she went on to say (which sounds right on the money) she doesn't like the company of autistic people because they never want to do anything normal people enjoy.

Which suits me just fine all the normal people activities are now thoroughly mainstream (Johnny come very latelies) such as gaming and messenger culture.

I used to be one (untill it nearly killed me ) it's amusing watching those hipsters who can barely balance ride their fixed bicycles with out brakes.





Anyways why would you want to bore some one , nobody cares about you interests so why burden them , do you enjoy being boring?

My sister and I were both into Lord of the Rings and any Tolkien book really and she said I took the Silmarillion too seriously.

My sister won't let me talk about any physics, astronomy, science fiction, etc. I feel almost guilty when I accidently bring them up.

My other sister doesn't mind at all. She encourages my writing, drawing/ painting and sci-fi watching too.

I was into Ben 10 once. People thought that was really odd. But Ben 10 introduced me to sci-fi and wanted me to learn more about the background history of aliens. Stargate and Star Trek was perfect for that.

Ellendra, I'd love to learn survivalism...as a part of my 'wanting to feel like I'm in the air force but not actually being in it.' The air force is another interest of mine. I love to learn all the techs of the aircraft, even have a few favourites of my own. By this time people don't think it's an odd/immature/uncommon interests or too intense because of the my intensity into those other interests. They're just like 'oh, another obsession to waste your money on.'

My mom once called America's Most Wanted "crap" and "junk" when I was obsessed with it at age 11, and it wasn't due to its being a snitch show. She just somehow didn't think it was important. She called my America's Most Wanted magazines "stupid detective magazines" which also got me going. Other things too about it.


Then when I was into Myst she would like say a character's name and then with something else... "Catherine's crap", "Gehn's garbage", etc.


Then when I was into Occupy she called it foolishness at one point even tho she agrees with Occupy!

Judging from my experience with Lion King and meerkats, I am very doubtful of other people's true feelings about said topic when they or someone they know claims they "just love" that said something. Most people who "love" meerkats are nothing more than posers and only love them because Meerkat Manor was so popular at the time. I highly doubt they had to put up with constant harassment and verbal bullying from even their own families. I highly doubt the put all their mental energy into meerkats and highly suspect they don't even know the basic meerkat facts Meerkat Manor didn't teach, and once it was once again no longer cool to "just love" meerkats, they forgot the facts they did learn from Meerkat Manor. I've had the unfortunate encounter with them in real life and on a certain Lion King message board that really has nothing to do with Lion King and whenever there is a Lion King related topic, it's usually just about kissing Julie Taymore's ass for her LSD inspired ass rape of my childhood.
I'm not in the UK, but I'm aware of that Hell spawn of an insurance agency mascot and bet when people find out you like meerkats they start quoting those "stupids" commercials. I know certain people who would have a felid day tormenting me by quoting those commercials. But anyway, I think the point I am trying to establish here is that these people who claim to "just love" meerkats never had to suffer for it.

I was horribly cyber bullied on a particular Lion King message board because I was "obsessed" with Lion King. I thought that would be acceptable on a messagebord for Lion King (or at least one that claimed to be for Lion King), but I guess it isn't and to this day, I avoid Lion King sites and other Lion King "fans" like the plague. Being a Timon fan won't earn you much respect in the Lion King community either. I also find it odd that these supposed Lion King fans have other favorite movies and even ones that they like more than Lion King. How is that possible if you are a fan? Sure I loved Titan A.E. at one point, but I loved it just as equally as I loved Lion King. I had to suffer for my Lion King obsession just as much as I did my meerkat one. Probably even more because at the time I was a child....and an autistic child at that. My tendency to get obsessed or "stuck". I was often told I was quote-on-quote "stuck" and with the negative vibe people gave it it, "stuck" might as well be a swear world just as bad as the f word.
