Same here. I am going on 33 and people generally think I am 26. I give off kind of a naive, childlike vibe I guess. Doesn't help that I am short either.

Yes, I have always looked a good bit younger than I am until about a couple of years ago. The effects of my sleep apnea are finally catching up with me, making me look older. If I am ever able to get more sleep, I think I will go back to looking younger than my age.

Staying inside a lot, and often not showing expressions may be part of the reason. But why knock it. Now that I am in my early 50s I like the idea of looking younger, and without any medical treatments or surgery.

Re: Lip injections. Yes, they look horrible, and stupid. But if someone wants to look dumb, they have a right to. Besides it gives me something to be amused about, although I wouldn't tell them that. I also think breast implants for other than medical reasons (cancer surgery, accident, etc.) are dumb. Some women really carry it too far, getting implants that are way too big for them. Also, most of these women would have perfectly decent sized breasts of their own if they would stop starving themselves into skeletons, and instead eat more--of healthy foods, and keep themselves toned with some exercise.

I'm almost 15 but most people think I'm like 10. Oddly my friend who also has Asperger's is 15 but looks like he could be in his 20s.

I am 28 almost 29 and I have been told my features have barely changed since I was 15 years old. I dunno tho. I do seem to act younger than I am according to most people I know and "need to grow up". I am grown, I just do not conform to neurotypical adulthood! =) . . at least I am telling myself that.

Im 29 but most people think I am 20 because I look younger than I actually am. Funny thing is I act younger too so it all evens out I guess lol.

Growing up I was strangely the opposite, almost everybody thought I was older than my actual age as I was tall for my age. I remember when I was 13, someone thought I was 18.

Agreed to both parts, haha.

I am 50 as of Feb. 25. And I look like I am in my twenties.

Sincerely,

I'm 27 and people think I'm 15 and no older than 18.

I love when I get asked why I'm not in school.

Oh that happens to me too. A lot. People are shocked when I say I turn 22 this year. Most people think I'm 17 or so.

I'm 31 and studying with a lot of school leavers - haven't met anyone at uni yet who didn't assume I was a school leaver. When I had jobs everyone assumed I was really young and had never had a job before, and many thought I needed to be pushed around to be put in my place or something. On the rare occasion I go out to licensed venues I still get asked for ID.

I always feel embarrassed and just let it go when people assume I'm younger than I am. I figure I must come across as really immature because of my poor social skills. I'm also told I dress "young"... not sure what that means - I just wear clothes that are practical and comfortable. (I own a lot of cargo pants because pockets are so damn practical).

[quote="Callista"]It seems to be a very prevalent observation, but I don't know of any scientific studies of the question. Could be anything from subtle genetic factors to the way we tend to stay inside, with our noses in books, instead of getting ourselves wrinkled from sun exposure. Could just be a fallacy that doesn't really have a basis in reality.

i dont avoid sun exposure. when i was in my twenties and thrities i was extremely hyper and walked for miles, and the sun here is strong, it's like california wheather. and i'm 45 and people think i'm in my early, mid twenties. when i was in my late twenties people thought me a teenager.

This thread again??? I love that it comes up so often ;)

I'm 38. I am often mistaken for mid-teenager (14/15/16).
I don't understand it really because I have hair that is going grey - "salt & pepper".

Even when folk know I'm not a teenager, because they know that I've been through Uni and had a job for a while, they still usually assume I'm much younger than I am and I'm usually grouped with people in the age range 25 to 30, rather than those closer to my own age and experience. This includes people who I've known for ~10 years ... I don't get it ... they surely can't have believed I was a schoolchild when they met me ...

Haha, people mistakes me for a 20 when I'm 30 already! And when I look at myself, I don't look younger! I even got asked 4 times the past 6 months for my ID because they thought I was a minor! I can't stop laughing and smiling at that everytime it happens, and usually I reply back like I was offended "here's my ID, I'm a manager of this company", then they'll say sorry and I'll start laughing and say that it's okay, I understand, I do look young. :p haha

But then again, that's the thing with most of us, we don't usually show emotional faces. Familiar with the saying that negative emotions showing on our faces makes us older? As in, literally over time? Because we rarely show our emotions with our faces, and because we rarely get affected by the emotions around us (like a collapsing economy, or worrying too much about what we're going to eat the next day, etc.) our faces gets older at the same rate as the rest of our body.

Take smiling for example. Experts also say that smiling keeps our face lighter and younger. There are people who likes to smile, it's part of them, and you'll see how they look younger than you or me most of the time.
