I usually plug my ears for about a minute or two and take some deep breaths. Seems to help.

Teachers are not likely to allow headphones, so try earplugs first. If that doesn't work, then you can try to get permission to wear sound cancelling headphones. There are some headphones that do this. Most sounds can be "deadened" or "erased" by another sound that cancels out the frequency of the first sound. Some years ago some companies started making devices that would cancel out loud and unpleasant sounds in industrial and factory settings. This was done to protect worker hearing, and nerves. Now you can get headphones that do the same thing, and for a lot less money now, too. Neat, huh? :D
This. But what I do to cancel out loud noise (and help me concentrate on something) is put on my headphones, and attach it to my Zune. Then I use the Zune's HD radio to cancel out background noise and help me focus.
