Lucid dreaming is basically becoming consciously aware that you are dreaming, and being able to make conscious decisions or actions within the dream. There are various tricks to try to make it easier to have one. The most common is performing a task repeatedly throughout the day, such as looking at your watch. Every time you do it you say to yourself "am I dreaming"? Once it becomes a habit, you'll likely do the same thing while in a dream, and be able to realize you're in a dream. See the links I posted above for lots more info.
Scoots, I may have an answer. I read once that the idea that people dream in black & white 50% of the time is a result of dream research that was carried out before the invention of color television. People at the time were seeing black & white television and it was reflected in dreams of the time.
This appears to be a hand-me-down myth. I’m sure most people dream in color these days.

Im quite affraid of my primals dreams as my deepest fears lies within.
I remember doing a dream quite often when i was young.
I was on the upper level of a stair, a large "turning" stair in wood with a large space in the middle. I was looking on the ground from the last level, the ground was a chessboard. I was standing on the fence quietly and suddently the fence lied and i falled having the ground comming nearer and nearer to me. I remember waking up or at last stoping the dream, when i was just about to hit the ground.
I did this dream several time and when i see a ground made in a chessboard pattern it remembe me the fear i had when falling.
Something strange to me is that i seen the EXACT SAME stairs in a movies, Vertigo

I remember a lot of my dreams and I'm always struck by how un-dreamlike they (mostly) are. They have a linear narrative quality and make sense in a way that is very plain and easy to grasp. They are rarely scary or surreal--no monsters or aliens or tidal waves. I can't fly or do any special tricks. My dreams generally depict the same sort of banal events that might be happening if I were awake. And just like real life, they tend to be complicated and full of annoying details. A lot of my dreams are about me being responsible for keeping track of different kinds of information.
For example, I might dream of making out a grocery list. Or running errands. Or dealing with a situation at work. Pretty boring stuff.
Often, I am not really in my own dreams. A lot of them are like watching a movie, TV show or documentary. These might be complete with voice-over narration and musical soundtrack. These are a lot more fun than the "running errands" dreams. I am present in these dreams only in the sense that I am watching the events take place. I am absolutley not a participant.
I remember one of these "movie" dreams: It was a musical about a talking Beagle named Schmuel who lived in a Suburban neighborhood. He sang a little song about how he knew the secrets of everyone on the street because he could run around from back yard to back yard, unnoticed by the humans, and pick up information using his excellent dog hearing/scent abilities. He was really quite charming and had a fabulous singing voice.
The best dreams happen when I have the flu and take "Nyquil" before going to sleep. That stuff produces my most amusing & interesting dreams. It almost makes having the flu worth it.
