Yes. Some people have to move in order to think. This is why I could not sit still in school. For some people, if the mind is to be in motion, the body has to be also.

I believe pacing can be a stim. I do it a lot during times of anxiety, when I am engaged in an interest, and when I am on the telephone.

I pace a lot, too, especially in public places where other stims would be inappropriate. Pacing seems to go overlooked if you do it discreetly in places where it is normal to look as if you're waiting for something. It seems to bring about a kind of break with one's surroundings and activate one's own internal headspace full of visual images, or at least that's how it works for me, so that I'm not limited to what's around me but able to be in my own world even though I'm in a public place.

Yes, definitely! A co-worker once tied my legs together at work to stop me from pacing! 8O

I pace for different reasons. I always pace when I'm talking on the phone...it helps me to focus. I also pace when I'm thinking.

When I pace at work, it's because I feel like an animal trapped in a cage.

I'm ALWAYS pacing when giving classes. Else I'd go nuts with the amount of people paying attention to me.

I like to pace when I'm thinking of something, listening to music or waiting for something to happen. I used to flap my hands but now I try to only do it when I'm alone.

It is defiantly a stim. I do it while listening to music with my headphones on. I am 42 now and have done this all my life. It allows my to escape into my own world to dream and conjure up new ideas.

I have always loved pacing. It's so soothing. I have paced for hours at a time too. Even when I was a little kid I would put on my favorite music and walk in circles around a table. I could do that for hours. Now that I remember doing that I can't imagine what my parents must of thought of it. They never asked me about it. I was oblivious to the world though so it never occurred to me until just this moment when I writing this post that that might have been odd. I still love to pace. I also paced when I was studying especially for exams. Sometimes when I paced I pretended to be a horse too. Sometimes I don't even need music, I just pace when I am thinking because it feels good and helps me think. So maybe it is a stim.

That is how I feel when I do it now too.

I did it more when I was a kid. Yes it bothered people and I was told to sit down and it made them nervous. I still do it sometimes. My dad does it too but more likely it's due to ADHD. One time someone at work thought I had it because she said her grandson did it too and he has ADHD. I am not sure if she was implying I had it but I didn't bother correcting her. I did it all the time at work because I always had to wait for the elevator. I was in a environment where I did it more often because of where I was always at. I also tend to do it in long lines too or sway my body and I don't do it at home often because I am always sitting or doing something but I also walk while talking on the phone and it's actually normal behavior. I also will try and not pace that much when people are around like at work because I am embarrassed about it. I also had to not do it in my apartment or it would bother the guy below me since he said me walking up there sounds like elephants but it's life in an apartment but I didn't want to pace and do elephants unless I have to get up and walk to another room like the kitchen or the bathroom or the bedroom or get up to get something or cleaning and sometimes I would slip and do it and make myself sit down again. I always thought it was a stim for me since I have done it for no reason and I found it relaxing. I also do it when bored or anxious.

It's my most exercised stim, it annoys the hell out of my parents, I pace a lot when ever the hallway is clear and I'm listening to music

I pace a lot too and I would consider it a form of stimming.

I do it a lot, especially when I have to wait, listen to music or when I have to talk on the phone. It helps me to concentrate.
