I know I make bad facial expressions when I am working the bar..My face constricts at the loud sounds and then every interaction is an unpleasant jolt..so I am sure I must frown at everyone I serve...the louder the music, the worse it gets.... I can tell I make people mad..but I don't know what to do about it. The music tonight is so loud it is making my head throb..despite my earmuffs...I had to scribble a sign stating what we have on the menu and at the bottom write that the "bartender is not being mean on purpose"

Yes I have been asked "are you confused?" when I am just sitting at my desk waiting for my computer to boot up so I must not epxress what I am thinking. Other times I have even felt uncomfortable around an overly assertive person and inside I felt intimidated, but the person said that I had little expression on my face.

Other times I have looked over at someone and to me I am just casually glancing at the person and then the person asks me "why are you giving me a ditry look?"

When I am around good friends who I feel comfortable with and it is a small group of say 3 or 4 people I hope that I have more appropriate expressions and also hope I appear relaxed and at ease.

It is confusing to feel one way and then have someone say you look another way than you are actually feeling. :?:

I get that sometimes, yes. But I more often get questions such as "why are you angry/sad?" or "are you ok?" even though I'm fine. Apparently I don't smile enough.

This.

It's funny, I never quite understood why people would ask me this...until I learned about AS, anyway...

Also, unless someone is clearly distraught, I can't say I ever really notice if someone else is sad.

My expression doesn't match what I'm feeling inside. I've talked about it a bit in another thread, but yes, I get the "are you okay" question all the time, even if I'm perfectly fine. Other times people think I'm angry when I'm simply lost in thought - I've noticed I frown so hard my face hurts when I'm working on something complicated.

I've been told (more than once) that it is okay to 'have a personality at work'. Apparently, I am rather unemotional and robotic.
