Diagnosis
I imagine if a doctor is knowledgable about autism, he or she is also knowledgable about AS. Doctors are supposed to continue learning about their specialties through reading books and medical journals and attending conferences, so I think they'd have to know quite a bit about AS.
The reason I say to make sure they atleast have the autism specialization is because psychologists tend to focus down on one thing you've told them about that they're familiar with, and ignore things they don't understand. One therapist I went to said I was social phobic and another psychologist said I was maybe schizoaffective.
