The only two people in my family who would do this is my little autistic brother, and me. Of course, he stopped chewing his shirt after a few years due to my parents constantly telling him to stop. he chewed on his shirt, pacifiers, his little siblings bottle nipples, straws, etc. But it took me literally years to stop chewing on stuff. I stopped about a year and a half ago (I am 20) and I used to chew on my shirt, toy parts, plastic straws, backs and lids of pens, pencils, etc. I still chew on ice frequently, and I like gum.
Up until a few years ago, my mom would always remind me to not put things in my mouth. I don't bite/chew on things as much as I used to, but I still catch myself doing it if I'm anxious. Never thought there was a connection to autism until recently.
