i grew up being extraordinarily sensitive to noises, so this made me notice phonographic crackles and hisses and rumbles more than most people, sufficient to never be able to listen to a record without wincing at the noise. this is what got me into the field of audio restoration.

I write books because I can write my own friends and they won't leave me. There's more to it now, over time, but in the beginning, that's where it really stemmed from. Someone I admire told me there was no greater feeling than to create a world and create the characters in that world.

I suppose I maintain my weird interests because they physically make me feel good. Whether it's foreign languages, international politics, cars, classical music, working on my constructed language, writing essays, or tutoring students at my university, each activity has its own distinct feeling, level of satisfaction, and manner in which satisfaction is achieved. My problem is that when I get excited about these things, I get that really intense fluttery feeling all throughout my body and it often leads to either hand flapping or weird muscle twitches which are very embarrassing in public, so I have to avoid sharing a lot of my passions with others unfortunately.
