In my old apartment I never opened the curtain but in my new one I do.

I hate shadows and darkness - actually, I think there's a bit of seasonal affective disorder going on too. I need badly all the light I can get, otherwise I get depressed. So I always open the curtains and the blinds.

I also feel like suffocating if the windows are closed. I like the fresh air flowing in, so I even keep them open during the harshest winters.

I live at the 10th floor in a 10-store building, so nobody's peeking or creeping in. And there are not many distractions either, so it's fine by me to leave the windows open at all times.

That's where I get into conflict with my father. He has loads of Aspie traits himself and he hates bright sunlight with a vengeance. He always closes my blinds and pulls my curtains, something which I can't stand...

I'll never understand the desire for open curtains. Unless you're sitting and looking out for an hour, then close 'em back up... especially at night.
Saves so much electricity cost by keeping them closed when you're away or not actively sitting in that room.

Part of the reason I have mine open is to save money on electricity. If I open them during the day I get enough natural light to keep the lights off. I have an unheated enclosed front porch that gets sun most of the day and in the winter with the curtains open it actually gets warm out there.

I like my curtain closed. We have door onto a balcony which we often leave open (there is only one other window in the house in the bedroom, the kitchen, bathroom etc have no windows) so it would get stuffy otherwise. I usually keep the curtains closed as much as possible though because I don't like bright light. When I'm at my Mum's sometimes she'll come into my room and open the curtains and I recoil like a vampire!

Do you hate all the light coming in? Is it distracting? Too many things to see outside that bother you?

I don't mean literally open windows with air coming in
, but just open window blinds/curtains that let sunlight (not air) in.

I read elsewhere that Aspies tend to hate open window curtains.

I for one hate to have my blinds and curtains open because the light coming in causes a sensory overload. I also have my air conditioning running during most of the warmer weather even when I don't have to. Once in a while I'll have both doors open if its in the lower 60's. But, I'm extremely uncomfortable about someone ripping the screen and unlooking the screen door, walking in and see my do my stimming or something else that is associated with my Autism.

Low light through out the house is very relaxing. But, I get plenty of sunshine when I have to do yardwork or go to the store. I have to wear a baseball cap or a visor when I work in the yard because I'm so sensitive to bright light.

The darker, the better. This is not only because of AS but I have light-blue eyes and they're sensitive to light. It's one of the things my NT wifey and I disagree about.

Maybe that is why I'm so sensitive to light, including flourescent lights. My computer screen bothers my eyes at times too. I also have light blue eyes as well.

I hate seeing a source of light in my peripheral vision. Light always has to be coming from directly behind me (unless I'm working on a computer, then the computer can provide the light). I kind of like dark, but it's not a big deal - just as long as the light source is behind me.

Aspergers/autsim and sensory issues go hand in hand. Having blue eyes may make typical blue eyes more sensitive - but even those people can handle the blinds open/computer monitors. Sensory issues in aspergers is my bet that makes you unable to handle the blinds open. You are not a blue eyed NT - You are a blue eyed aspie/autistic. Usually makes you ++ on anything.

So yes, blue eyed people have sensitive eyes. Being an aspie will cause ++ sensitive. For instance = fights with a NT over closed blinds. Been there. Done that.

Just my two cents there :)

An open window is a source of anxiety for me. If I need to open one, a screen and curtains should be present. Otherwise, I cannot feel secure (I think this is the right word). There is another problem of course: I regard sunlight as an intruder. It tries to invade my sacred ground (my house), and I prepare my defenses with my lovely curtain.

that is a difficult question. i do not like inanimate objects, but i can dislike them.

all of the blinds i have ever had have been under my total control, and so if they are open, then it is me who opened them, and if they are closed, then it was me who did not open them, and so always my blinds are in a state of openness or closedness which i control.

so the question boils down to "have i ever been a victim of the orientation of blinds on a window of mine that i was powerless to alter" (in a strange way), and so my answer is "no".

I almost always leave curtains open. In fact I only have curtains in my bedroom. None of my other windows even have them.

I am so lucky that I live in a very remote area where my closest neighbor is about half a mile away so I have sweet, sweet privacy. my house cannot be seem from the road.I do not have to deal with car fumes, loud cars, voices, and people being able to see inside. If I lived in an urban area I would have blackout blinds and keep the windows shut.I live where I do to preserve my sanity.

I live in an urban area. I like to keep the blinds down and curtains closed just to feel that I have more privacy. If I lived in a house, rather than an apartment, I would open them, because people would notice.
