While Autscape requires you to teleport, Autreat doesn't, as it takes place in your neighboring state, Pennsylvania:

Not going, because

a) I don't want to spend the substantial amount of money, time and energy/effort ( including renewing my passport ) required to get there from the south of France so long as:

b) It continues to seem like such a "between two/three stools sort of thing", neither wild festival with hundreds/thousands of participants, and lots of music and stalls selling crafty stuff and cool food nor a serious conference about a subject which deeply interests me and with other participants equally as interested in that subject, ( unless it is that of autism, which is no longer one of my special interests ), nor an effective way of meeting people whom I might then meet up with on a regular basis, seeing as it's in the UK and I'm here.

It continues to feel like a fundamentally inessential thing to me, and as such only worth it if it were close by and I could get there in an hour and for virtually nothing, even if I then still paid for full accommodation and the event etc. In other words might go if it were less than 100km away.

I'm glad I went once, ( 2009 ), to see what it was like. Pleasant, but rather pointless as far as I'm concerned. :)

No, I don't live in Europe.

Wrong side of the world. Too bad we can't actually get one of these organised in this hemisphere, especially good if in the U.S. Yes, I saw the thread about a conference here, but got tired of reading all the back patting, with no progress showing.

Did I miss it? If so, correct me here. Please.

Autreat's price is as low as possible.
The registration fees merely cover the price of the venue itself. (University of Pittsburgh's campus in Johnstown, PA).

Perhaps you could organise an Autscape equivalent in France? :)
(You already proved to us you can organise aspie meetups).

But you do have one of these in the US.
It is called Autreat and it takes place in Pennsylvania:

In fact, Autreat 2012 is taking place right now! !!

Autreat 2012's final evening has just begun.
Scheduled for this evening are Autreat's Amazing Annual Adulthood Acclamation, and the Autreat dance.
You can still attend it virtually, if you so wish.

I wish I could've gone, but I have only read this topic right now...what are my chances of getting in on it now at this late stage? :)

How do I attend this "virtually" right now without details?

I've never heard about it until now (so I voted accordingly in the poll), but having read the website it sounds great! The funny thing is, I read half of the website before getting to the actual programme (which is typically what you'd want to see first for a conference, right?) and it still sounded really interesting. I guess it was the whole thing about being in a place where autistics are the normal people. Hell, I'm not even all that autistic, but it's something I'd really like to experience at least once. Unfortunately I live far, far away.

Zero. It ended yesterday.
You can participate next year, though.

Ditchingham is only a few miles outside of the Western Hemisphere.

Through Autreat's mailing list:
http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/autreatinfo/

Although Autreat itself has finished for this year, its mailing list now has farewell discussions, conclusions of Autreat 2012 and ideas for Autreat 2013.
