Researchers of Boston Children Hospital found out that a brainscan can detect autism in children from age 2. Using EEG-scan measuring the electronical activity of the brain they succeeded detecting autism in a sample of children age 2 to 12. They discovered 33 specific EEG-patterns linked to autism. The researchers repeated this tests 10 times en compiled the groups each time differently. In 90% of the cases the 33 specific patterns could indicate the children having autism. According to head researcher Frank Duffy this method can assess whether the younger brothers or sisters of an autistic child will also develop this disorder as well as can the EEG-patterns be used as a method to assess the effects of methods of treatment.
