My boyfriend wants to take me, so I guess I'm gonna go see them somewhere. I may buy some earplugs. I hate loud noises.

This year we have a severe drought and have burning bans in almost every county except about 10. Many of the fireworks displays have been cancelled or postponed. Since my county have a burning ban as well I question our city putting on a fireworks display. And if anyone gets caught firing off fireworks they are warned. If they are caught again than they will get a stiff fine in my state.

I use to put on such an impressive fireworks display that there were always several people watching. But, I quit doing this the year after last because they got expensive.

With me now on SS, no more light shows from me.

Ban or not, I'm waiting for some moron in the apartment complex next to my addition to set set some off and start a fire.

Luckily I live on a rural commune & the tree-hugging commies don't believe in the 4th of July. If someone could invent silent fireworks, I might get on board.

Love the sound of such. The muffled booms.

Don't like the visual aspect of such though (too bright against the dark background).

One reason why I like firearms so much, the noise (granted, one has to use ear protection for that due to the proximity to your ears).

I love fireworks except for the screaming ones I cover my ears every time those screamers go off.

My city's firework display is directly across from my home, I could enjoy it if it wasn't for the fact that I know I'll have to keep running into the house to make sure my son isn't melting down or tearing the place apart for the fun of it, I'll probably try to bring him out for the experience but then he'll get chewed up by mosquitoes even if I put repellant on him and he'll hate the noise ... it's always stressful. The worst is the ignorant neighbors who illegally and irresponsibly set off their own major fireworks, that stresses me out. (I also *hate* those screamer ones, what's the point of them!? They're not pretty and they hurt my ears.)

The same thing I do every year - Live with the consequences.

Where I live, a lot of neighbors have a lot of firecrackers to blow up. I am in a fairly rural area, and we get firecrackers for days before the 4th, and similar before New Year's Eve. Sometimes it's just loud and brain-breaking. Sometimes it gets like what happened the other night, where someone was setting off firecrackers every few seconds. Each detonation put me off balance and made me forget what I was trying to do, and several came in succession, usually right as I was starting to gather my senses. Thankfully, it stopped, but I never look forward to that.

Technically, they're not a detonation, rather an explosion.

Detonation is unique to high explosives where the shockwave propagates at supersonic speeds without a need for the explosive material itself to be confined. Fireworks use propellant that's confined in some form of package, which when the propellant is exposed to flames, creates a high pressure that bursts the package; hence, an explosion.

Basic firecrackers are just propellant (blackpowder/pyrotechnic powder) wrapped tightly with paper and a fuse sticking in one end. Paper is used due to no chance of lethal fragments. Rockets are the same, it's just that the propellant is utilized directionally to push something rather than just blowing up (different casing to contain the pressure in all but one direction).

And there I go lecturing.

Fireworks are sweet. I love fireworks. I just don't got any of my own this year, but I do enjoy watching them and hearing them. My favorite firework I've ever seen, obviously outside of pro displays, is called a Saturn V rocket launcher. Basically, it's a bank of 100 little bottle rockets. It's AMAZING when it goes off and you can see it well. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xjZ_OObed-c Video of them. So sweet.

While your lecture is entirely correct, I'll just say it feels like a detonation in my brain every time they go off. A metaphorical detonation, as a literal detonation would be lethal to me and everyone nearby.

This seems to be a case where I'm different from a lot of us here. I love fireworks, and the louder the better; the closer the better. Same with thunderstorms :P . It's not the kind of noise that puts me into a mental breakdown, like screeching children does, and other things. Explosive kabooms are exciting to me...

My plan is to hope that they won't have another display of fireworks tonight as they already had one last night. I was going to wear earplugs but I started to get a headache from them so I took them out, thinking maybe they wouldn't have fireworks afterall. That sort of hoping was futile, when the first fireworks went off I was startled and put my fingers to my ears where they stayed for 20 min until I finally figured out that if I went to my room I could stand the noise enough to take my fingers away and shove my earplugs back in. I do enjoy the display of fireworks, they are pretty and awesome, but I can't stand the noise. Haven't been able to since I was a child. At least I don't plug my ears and scream like I used to to drown out the noise. I've grown up a little since then.

Now that I'm an adult I don't care about fireworks anymore. Similar to Christmas; I feel that the magic of these types of holidays dissipated as I got older. I was supposed to be with my NT best friend for the 4th this year, but I got royally screwed over by the NT in her (surprise, surprise) so this year is especially bittier for me. Just going to stay inside and work on an art commission and that's probably it.

We had our fireworks up here on the first, we stayed home, boyfriend sleeping on the couch upstairs. The dog, the cats and myself in the basement, all of us growling every time someone shot off a firework.

I stopped going to them a couple of decades ago, I got tired quickly of the noise, crowds, traffic, drunks, stupidity.... Too much too much. I stay home.
