Trinket....yeah, same here. I had a job but quit after two months because I was getting very overwhelmed at work and very very nervous. One customer came up to me (I was a cashier) and just stood there and stared at me. I gave him a weird look and asked if I could help him. He just told me that I looked so nervous. I hate how ignorant people screw with those who are nervous or different. Of course I avoided looking him in the eye.
All my posts thus far basically follow the same pattern. You see, I've suspected having AS for months (at my therapist's suggestion), but have yet to seek proper diagnosis. It's important to me, especially so I can get accommodations in college, such as note-taking, alternatives to partner and presentation projects, etc. It's also in part to feel validated. I just want some answers.

heh, yeah I was fired from a job I loved last summer after I had a bad meltdown(the big problem was not the meltdown so much as they couldn't find me because I ran into the woods and hid to have my meltdown) and I wasn't able to make friends with any of the 70 or so staff members(BTW this was a summer camp, I was on the equestrian team), and then due to several stressers (one of them being a sudden schedule change without anybody telling me) I ended up starting to cut again(I know... soooo stupid, I'm still angry at myself for doing it)
I didn't even know anything about Aspergers until just after I was fired from camp when I talked to a DR(for the 1st time since childhood due to not having insurance or the money to go in) and told her my problems, she refereed me to a PsyD, they agreed on Aspergers(and anxiety, as well as depression), and now I have a new PsyD who's my counselor who I see once a week and she also diagnosed me with it. and I'm going to get a "formal diagnosis" with OHSU(they're the best around) around February of next year(long waiting list)
I tried working at Macy's.... that was stupid of me, it was really hard, and I ended up crying in the bathroom on my breaks. I'll never do that ever again, that was NOT the job for someone like me. being a cashier requires more social skills then I possess
I'm going to my Local community College in the fall, and I need to ask about accommodations, but I'm to scared too... silly I know. I don't even know what they could do for someone like me.
Being new to all this I'm trying to figure out different resources. I'm going to see if I can work with a occupational therapist, you might benefit from working with one too?
I know how you feel about answers, I've got a diagnosis now, but that's only half of it, now I need to figure out the resources that are available to me.

Two uni accomodations I have found very useful are different exam conditions and getting access to a quiet room which is only used by a couple of other students so I have somewhere to go and be (usually) by myself when I'm getting overwhelmed or whatever.
The other 'resource' I have found useful in helping understand problems (of the sensory and processing type) I run into and develop strategies for improving them is a neuropsychologist I am working with.
Agree (though not dx'ed)

I also have a math disability, and I know I can get time and a half on exams. which is nice, though really it's just more time to fail
I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who wants answers.

You're telling me! I failed math miserably and it was only Algebra 2. I'm much more artistically-oriented.

Me too!
I actually never made it to Algebra 2
I took a (semester long) Algebra 1A class 5 times total
(BTW I online home-schooled my 2nd half of high school, if I hadn't I wouldn't have graduated, and as it was I was in school a year longer and I *barely* graduated)
And of course, I wasn't diagnosed with a math disability until AFTER high school, go figure. Math is so hard to understand, it's too much "non-visual" I think, I like to be able to do things with my hands
I haven't had a 2.0 since elementary school where we were mainly graded on being there, but I'm not stupid, I exceeded my reading and writing state tests, and I know lots of things other people don't(especially about my special interests).
I'm artistically oriented too
here's my deviantART

I just got a scanner so I'm just now putting my work online, I haven't put my best work up yet.
