Never rode the "special" bus, though in high school I always sat at the front and actually gave the driver directions if the regular driver was out. Naturally, I was given a hard time over it.

Always walked to school. The only time I rode in a school bus is to basketball games at other schools or on field trips.

Yep, got so sick of it that i walked to school the following year

I liked it, really. Got along with everyone else on the bus (all of whom were in my class). I didn't realize there was any associated stigma until my 20s.

They put me in the special ed class with all the troublemakers, making me an easy target, and those were the same ones who rode on that bus.

My school wanted to put me in a class with kids with behavior disorders when I was in 6th grade because I was always getting into fights with other kids. They just didn't want to deal with me and poor them, I made it so hard for them all because of my own problems making myself a target for bullies.

I did when I was put in special ed in 4th grade until 8th grade in Junior high. I was much higher functioning than the rest so eventially I got out of special education and put back in the normal classes.

I liked it too. The bus came straight to the house and you could see where the others lived. The bus traveled a long distance before it actually arrived at the school. I also never feared being teased on that bus like I had the regular school bus.

In elementary school I walked, because I lived literally across the street from the school. In middle school I was driven to school, but had to ride the bus home - I could have ridden the short bus, and I wanted to, but my mom didn't let me because of the stigma, so I had to endure the torture of riding in the regular bus, where I basically went into shutdown from all the noise and all the sensory overload stuff on there. I was also harassed every day on it. Luckily my stop was the last, so almost all the kids were off the bus at that point and it was easier for me to focus and know it was my stop. When I shutdown I get mute, and I'm mute afterwards for a while, so every day while riding the bus, and while on the way home, and once I got home, I couldn't make myself talk, not until later in the day.

It was near enough for me to walk. Wasn't brilliant, the other kids who walked would shout stuff at me in the street.

Where I lived in Western Australia during my school years, there was no such thing as a short bus. I am not sure if there is now. In high school I rode the regular bus for a short while and it was very noisy. I have no idea why kids have to shout on the bus, heh.

Mine never picked me up at my house even though it picked everyone else up at their house. This was with 3 or 4 different buses and schools.

I also got bullied sometimes on the short bus. Once a girl pushed me against the window and I hit my head and got a bump on it.

In eighth grade they were letting the kids smoke on the short bus.

No I rode the long bus......2 of them, about half an hour each including waiting time.....public transport with a free pass. That was the secondary school. Before that I lived near the school so I just walked. Commuting is a bad idea.

I rode the 'short bus' from Kindergarten to Grade 4, mostly because of my older brother's severe asthma. We were the only two of three not in wheelchairs and really got to respect those with disabilities. Sadly, many of the "disabled" have since passed away. In Junior High I had to ride the regular bus and of course since nobody wanted to share a seat with me I frequently had to sit in the aisle.

I used to back in elementary to middle school but also ride the regular bus at the same time. Been riding the regular bus since I have been in high school.
