Yes I´ll go crazy if I can´t listen to music wherever I go. If I´m going anywhere and forget my mp3-player my world is very likely to collapse. I have actually cried a few times after forgetting/losing it. (It also protects me from all the distracting and annoying noise out there so it´s really vital for my well-being.)

One thing I really love doing is to lie down, close my eyes while listening to music and just enjoy the beautiful shapes and patterns of colours and all the intense feelings and physical sensations it creates in me, and just space out. The best thing is I don´t even need to take any substance to experience that (not that I didn´t occasionally). I could spend all my spare time by doing nothing but that and never get bored.

And also, whenever I find something new that I dig I´m instantly hooked and will listen to that same music 24/7 for months straight and nothing else, until I run into some new stuff that I get obsessed with. For example for the last couple of months I´ve been playing nothing but Björk and watching her music videos (which are super cool btw) and I can´t seem to get enough of her. The funny thing is that my taste for music varies greatly and so I seem to be able to enjoy and fall for almost any type of music, the genre doesn´t really matter as long as it has the spirit I can feel.

I also have the same problem. It annoys me when I get disturbed with someone linking me YouTube links or something while I'm listening to music, because I have to disrupt my music :(

This is the same for me and t.A.T.u.

I absolutely adore all music whether it is profession or covers found on youtube, or soundcloud, or bandcamp. The worst singer to the best singer. Instrumental to A Capella. All music is life. Back in highschool when I forgot my cd player I paid big bucks to borrow other peoples. I also hope to work at easy street records, though I am sad they sell non music dvds. Music is my life and will be until I enter into music Nirvana.

I felt a lot better/more productive and more in control of my own feelings when I started making music rather than consuming it. If you have reasonable social skills/tolerance towards others it's also not a bad way to make friends and meet new people.

If anyone does try their hand at making music it's important to avoid getting hung up on the gear or equipment used. It's what too many people talk about in online music forums rather than creativity or expression. Personally, I have to stay away, otherwise I get sucked into researching some cool new music toy that I don't need. On the other hand, if you are very technical minded, you could look into being a recording engineer or mixing or mastering.

I used to be exactly the same. Music all day every day, except when I needed to talk/listen to people. I don't listen to music that much now, though.

That's sad puddingmouse but I see in your interests that you have so many other interests.

I already posted in this thread, but I want to add to what I said, since this post will relate more with the other posters in the thread.

I pretty much hoard music. My phone, which has 64gb storage, is almost completely full of music, and that's just the tip of the iceberg - I have an external hard drive with all my music on it. If I'm not playing music, I'm almost always listening to it. I know my favorite parts of my music collection very intimately - every single note, sound, texture, for every single instrument. I also have absolute pitch - the ability to know what a given note or chord is without external reference.

Before I graduated from university, I would almost always have my headphones in, listening to music, while I was at the university. The only time they came out and the music stopped was while I was in classes.

I find since I absolutely adore all music, I need to listen to it all. That can't happen and that keeps me frustrated/

I would enjoy remixing different songs.

Music is my life! Playing it, making it, mixing it, remixing it, mastering it... :D

What is the best way to keep the noise down at a concert without eventually causing your ears to always ring, or not going, and being inconspicuous.

Earplugs. Look for high-fidelity ones, like musician's earplugs, which have an attenuation more even across the range of frequencies. I use these at concerts I go to and shows I play in, when I'm watching other bands perform. They often give them out free at the door, if it's a big enough venue, although these are just normal disposable earplugs and not high quality high-fidelity earplugs. Either way, this means that others should be using hearing protection there, so you should be inconspicuous anyway.

Besides, your hearing is much more important than being inconspicuous. You only get one set of ears and once you screw them up they're gone for good.

Thank you.
