How to encourage a quiet person with ASD to talk?
Thanks. I did a similar thing with another girl this week, where we just worked on a jigsaw puzzle together without talking. I saw that she followed what I did in that she took a piece from the pile after I did. I don't feel comfortable talking to these participants, either, as it is very forced and since I don't know what they know and what they don't know, it is hard to talk to them without making assumptions on my part (which is not really respectful).
I also don't like how everyone has to talk. Luckily, none of the staff objected to what I did. Perhaps the way we were sitting looked like we were interacting verbally. Or perhaps the staff didn't find anything wrong with my approach, either.
