I absolutely need total darkness!! I have to have roller blinds on my bedroom window otherwise it is too bright for me. I used an eyemask until I could get the roller blinds. If I go away on a holiday or whatever, I bring an eyemask otherwise I wake up with the sun rising which is waaaayy too early!!

I can't sleep with anything over my face, but I do need total darkness in order to fall asleep. I have two windows in my room, one facing east and the other south. It gets a lot of light in the morning. Until I'm able to invest in a pair of blackout shades, I've blocked out most of the light with heavy towels clipped to the blinds. I sleep with many blankets and pillows and two fans going.

Not sure what type you'll get, but blackout --curtains-- are honestly just junk. They lure you with "99%" or so effectiveness, but that's not even close to what you'd think it is.

You're much better off with heavy duty foil. You can use clear tape to join sections. I've done this, and it works great. The wind blows through cracks in the window and the foil makes noise, but it blocks out a huge amount of light (until cracks start to form). It's still very nice price-wise. Curtains will always have light leaks. Shades are better if you can tape them alongside the edge.

interesting poll so far :) I personally don't see the need to invest in black out curtains since i'm so accustomed to eye masks so I wouldn't be able to tell you how well they work. That and some of the electronics in my room give off a decent amount of light so, eye masks are best for me :)

I don't use an eye mask to sleep. I also sleep with the light on.

My sleeping bag got a hood - does it count as an eye-mask?

I tend to sleep better the darker it is and can't sleep well if the room is really light or there is a bright light outside flooding in. However, I've tried eye masks and they never seem to fit right and I can't stand how they move around as I shift positions.
