Hi people

I haven't read much about this, but I have just been realising lately that I tend to do a lot of stuff to do with my mouth, like constantly making silly noises, singing snippets of songs/jingles because some word may have triggered the association or who knows where from, pressing my lips together, whistling, copying funny accents/phrases I hear on TV, an obsession with eating repetitive type food (chips,m&ms, popcorn, etc), chattering teeth together to a beat, I used to chew on/suck objects a lot as a child, etc, etc....

Is this a form of stimming? Feels like it to me...

Wow its good to know im not alone i wasnt diagnosed with aspergers but i do alot of stuff like this for example..when im hyper i will say something silly over and over again... Also i make cat meows i used to do it more than now. I also talk to myself and sometimes say silly things to myelf and then i will say "what im alowd to say that" "what? i am" "what i am" and keep saying "what i am" over and over till i get tired of it. I also notice since i wear my hair in a pony tail most of the time i grab all my hair and twist it and twist it. Then other times i move parts of my body when im just sitting there. And i move my jaw back and forth alot too.

I believe this is considered a form of stimming. I do a lot of this sort of stuff--I'll sing to myself, repeat phrases from TV shows or movies I've seen, make funky voices, "chatter" my teeth together, make sucking sounds, you name it. I would constantly put objects in my mouth too, even as a teenager.

Wow, I do these mouth things too and have since I was a kid! Especially chattering the teeth to the beat of a song...omg. And yeah, I also repeat things I've just heard on the TV. I will vocally mimic music too, not just the singing part of a song. And sometimes....I play the air drums and air guitar. And I'm a 50 year old woman! I really don't think I need a professional evaluation anymore. It's obvious after reading everyone's posts that I have AS! All these things can't be a coincidence.

- I very often talk to myself.
- I randomly quote things from movies/TV-series.
- Sometimes I whistle when I'm bored or feeling uncomfortable.
- Sometimes I make weird noises (clicking noises etc).
- Sometimes I bite my tongue.
- I often imitate things I just heard on TV or something. I like copying accents.

Are those considered stims?

Hi, new here. For the first time in my life I have the time to explore why socialising has been an alien concept for as long as I can remember.
I have always folded my tongue and bitten gently on it when I’m really happy or in anticipation of something happy happening, I also constantly make bubbling sounds with my tongue against the sides of my lower pallet when thinking. I like my own company but would also like to feel comfortable in a crowd, I just never seem to know how so just want to get back alone again in my house where things are easier. I have a faith and that has helped but the social thing involves everything from church to job to needing a support network of friends, that’s where all the pressure resides for me. I never know how to behave in a conversation, I can’t show interest when I don’t feel it although I know I can when I really get to know someone because a care develops for that person. Compensating is hard work.

I find myself repeating dialogue I heard in a movie. (I believe this is called "scripting.")

Also, on the tennis court, instead of the traditional grunt or screech I hear from professional players, I make a meowing sound like a cat.

I used to chew gum if my hands weren't busy until a few months ago because my headaches got worse. For me, it's hands or mouth.
