The doctor had no motivation to lie to you. Your mother does have motivation to be in denial.

What she wrote in her blog leads me to believe she probably knows, deep in her heart. But that doesn't make it any easier. Not for her and not for you.

I do not know a lot about Chinese culture, but I do remember once reading something from an autistic from Thailand ( I think it was Thailand) and he said that in his culture, autism was a cause for shame because of the high degree of ignorance. Even in the US, not too long ago autism was seen as the fault of a cold, uncaring mother. I can certainly understand the psychology behind strong denial in times like that. Even today I have come across mothers who have a hard time with acceptance because of how it "looks" to other people, as if their child's condition is somehow a negative reflection on them. Then there is the added issue that most people have a very narrowly constrained understanding of what autism is. I would consider myself to be an educated, intelligent, open-minded person and I did not realize what was different about my daughter at first because she did not "look" like the image I had in my head of autism.

Doctors are not allowed to lie.
