I live in a small community of about 70 people in an area of about 50 square miles. There is only one family in the community that I did not grow up with either them or other members of their family. Because of this, I work hard to stay on good terms with everyone, but I'm not what you would call friends of anyone in the community in the sense that we don't go out to do things outside of church.

My younger brother lives about 1.5 miles away across the field. He never even invites me to his parties (fish fries, hunting parties, or dominos). In general, not going to the parties doesn't bother me, but it would be nice to at least be invited.

I get along quite well with the people I work with, but once again, we don't do things outside of work.

I'd say that I only have one good friend in the world, someone I shared an office with when we were in grad school in the 1970s. I used to see him quite often, but now we live about 600 miles apart and I only talk to him once or twice a year.

I have had several girlfriends, but not very often and not really all that much of friends.

Do you know what the definition of bachelor is? Someone who's never made the same mistake once.

I have no friends at all in real life. I haven't had any for years now. I get lonely, but it's too hard to make new friends.

I have had years when I went without having one friend. I remember a time I went without a friend for about 6 years or so.
I made a friend last year who I met through my Aspergers social group. We see each other every few months and she is really neat. She has AS as well.
Have a few acquaintances but not real friends. Close to zero friends. My efforts in the past to make friends have usually failed. Haven't managed to ever have a lasting friendship last 2 years. I find it hard to meet people and with most people the friendship fades.
Such is life.

I used to have a bunch of what I thought were friends but as the years went by it became very clear that they considered me to be more of an acquaintance than a friend. So, now I spend pretty much all of my time alone. I'm trying to learn to be ok with that but if I am honest I'm really not ok with it.

yea, I'm pretty much this way, I have my co-workers, but I rarely hang out with them outside of work. I do have a 2 friends that I occasionally hangout with, but thats only when I take a vacation, since they live about 8 hours away. Does over the internet count? cause then yea, I would have some more, though not by much.

Preface: I'm actually totally fine with being socially isolated.

However, I have two friends online; my first real friends too (not just people at school you play games with). I wouldn't swap either for isolation, but as I said, I would be fine if I were isolated (either way works). Had another friend in the past, but she left (too autistic for her needs there).

I had a lot of childhood friends, but after most of them moved away when their parents took new jobs, the ones that were left kinda ditched me - this was all by age 10. By 12 I'd gone fairly quiet in school.

I spent my teen summers helping my folks with home improvement projects, fundraising for my hockey program, and odd jobs/paper route.

Overall, 99% of my life's energy has been spent on work and school. I spend 50-60 hours a week around my coworkers, and that's enough of them for me. I've had several girlfriends and have been married for 5 years.

Other than that, I'm tired and actually don't get enough alone time. I don't have time to find new friends and there's too much family and house stuff going on. Keeping up after my cats and dog is kind of rewarding since they love me unconditionally, but it's annoying otherwise. People, though, are just too high maintenance when I have a hard enough time keeping up with myself!

I have colleagues with whom I get along fairly well, but I don't think any of them would come If I invited them to go for, say, a hike or a walk with me; likewise the folks I"m on friendly terms with from my dojo. I'm tolerated in group situations, but apparently uncomfortable to be around one-on-one... I have had friends in the past, but either they ditched me or I ditched them after (for example) they outed me as an Aspie to several co-workers, including my supervisor (I have not told anyone else outside of this site). Thankfully there were no employment ramifications from that, at least not yet, but I can't completely trust that person any more even though he's one of the few people who seems to enjoy my presence.
