yeah sport.

my favourite sport is drag racing, i sometimes participate, i hate spectating and usually prefer to look at the engines in the pit area than sit down and watch the racing but i love being on the track myself.
I can not watch any ball game sport for any more than a few seconds, and tennis is torchure even if you cant see the screen, i cant take in the information to how the game works. I always seem to be coming into contact with football celebrity's and never know who they are.
I also can not stand modern top 40 music, I found a facia recently from a stereo receiver i had when i was about 12 and found I had written top 40 sucks on the front so its nothing new, i often wonder if a band i liked somehow got on the charts if i would stop listening. I get the impression that modern top 40 is created from marketing and how the artist(if they could be called that) presents themselves, gold chains and benzes for men becuase girls like financially stable men and tight small revealing clothing with erotic dancing for the women becuase young girls idolise people and men like looking at near nude chicks wiggle there but however i have always looked at music different, i like the sounds and moods that come from music so top 40 didnt ever appeal to me.

My unobsessions are marketing gimmicks and anything to do with fashion and/or "Barbie" stuff. I cannot stand it!

i like this idea of un-obsession. i've related it to myself by saying i just didn't care. it is actually become quite pervasive and disheartening. i think my unobsession is life.

Haha. This one's easy for me. Its MATH. All through school I just couldn't get it, and no one could convince me the reason to learn algebra. I already knew my future career wasn't going to be an engineer or architect.

Even now, just seeing fractions or an equation turns off my brain. I can do simple multiplications and adding. I even made an "A" in accounting, so I don't mind realistic applications. But algebra is a HUGE un-obsession.

Also completely un-obsessed with sports and rap music.

Here are my unobsessions:

Science. I absolutely loathe it. Or at least I loathe the way it's taught in schools. I usually get A's and B's in science classes, but have I really learned anything from any of them? No. Because the material is so dull, I just store a bunch of facts into my short-term memory the night before a test and then forget them soon after.

Literature. For school I've had to read some of the most boring crap in the world. And then they make me have to analyze it in depth. I especially hate it when literature teachers ask questions like "Why would the author include this character/event in the book?" It's almost as if they expect us to read the author's mind. As an Aspie, I especially have trouble "reading between the lines".

Sports. The most boring and repetitive concept ever. Yet NTs have the nerve to accuse us Aspies of having boring and repetitive obsessions. What hypocrites.

"Ghetto culture". The ghetto culture is responsible for the absolutely repulsive "music" that dominates the Billboard charts today and the overall douche-bagishness (sorry, I can't think of a better word) of the teenagers of today.

People's names. I wish I was more interested and better at remembering, but I just can't get names to 'stick' in my memory until I've been working or socialising with someone for at least a fortnight. Once they are in there, I rarely forget.

Also, I've been told that if someone is telling me what to do, my eyes will literally glaze over and I'll start yawning. It happens when my Mum nags me and also on training courses. I just can't listen to anyone for more than about 10 minutes.

This is interesting. I am seeing that the un-obsessions are not ADD type things for the most part. I have two questions...

1. For the NTs and other non-autists around here... do you have these un-obsessions?

2. Does anyone have an obsession that lies within a field of un-obsession?

I have to discount an un-obsession within an obsession because thats an example of big-picture only thinking, and not typical for Autists.

Sports and finance/business.
I'm interested in exercise and math, though, so maybe I'm just disobsessed with competition?
