Don't you consider silph to be attractive

Who's silph?

Is there a picture of her?

Anyway, I don't think AS has changed my appearance. wikipedia says appearaces don't change. etc... It seems there are perhaps 2- or more "problems" that DO cause AS AND physical changes, and THAT must be what bill is talking about. OBVIOUSLY, if people are left wondering, then there must be some problems with the theory that it radically changes appearance. And look at drowning medusa? SHE has one of those deals apparantly that changes appearance, or maybe is simply part of a family that had those appearances, and she was a cute kid!

And I don't know if hale bops avatar is any indication. If it is, then she isn't affected either from what I can see.

Of course, beauty IS in the eye of the beholder.

BTW I KNOW the following probably don't have AS, they are just examples!

I once mentioned my surprise that anna kornicova was so pretty in SI. Inside, when she was shown playing tennis, etc... She didn't really look good. After hearing what I said, a coworked made he sound like she looked ugly. Heck, SI LAUGHED at annas skill, berated her for only being the 15th best, and said that if not for the fact that she was pretty, nobody would have heard about her. So someone there agreed with me.

Also, I considered the olson twins, and sara michelle geller to be homely kids! But look at them now.

Who knows?

This is why people look different in magazines/promotional photographs than they do in real life:

They have staff to do that at every magazine office. Not just one but several people.

My social life would have been in tatters except that the guys really thought I was from pretty to beautiful. I actually had boys fighting to ask me out, even though I am socially clueless (shows you what males are interested in). I was considered, ahem, pretty and "unique" (understatement of the century). I'm older and still attractive, and I don't try hard to be. No makup and I usually wear t-shirts and jeans. I *do* have good hygiene. Men still try to pick me up, some in their late 30's, even though half the time I walk around in my own world and don't even notice them until they talk to me. It annoys me because I think looks shouldn't matter, but they obviously do.

I've seen lots of pictures of adult Aspies and I can't speak about the women (I'm strictly het), but the men seem just as attractive as NT men. Most people aren't good looking, and who cares? Being pretty (in NT terms) never got me anywhere good. I think you have to dig deeper than that to find a good match. JMO. This is a good excuse to send you guys to MySpace, as I am a writer. You can see that I look NT (I think), and read about my writing :)) I'm the one with the long hair and I'm 53 years old.

I can't speak for anyone but myself, but I think as a group, from what I've seen, and myself included, aspie girls are pretty much average to above average in general (with some who are below, and some who are way above)... just like any other group of people.
In my experience, when I was a small child I was cute (like most small children) but as an older child / teenager, not so much. I never had a nice hairstyle or wore nice clothes really - I guess I couldn't be bothered... then I learned to "clean myself up" (with a little help from a very aesthetic best friend  ) and now... when i actually look up at people... I DO see men looking at me at work sometimes, and I've seen told by men and women that I'm cute. But generally I don't bother with clothes / hair / makeup - it's a waste of time, and really why would i WANT to be noticed for these things?
The only time I dress myself up is if I'm going out with my BF, (He told me he likes to see me "prettied up" sometimes, but I know most of the time he doesn't care what I look like, he loves me for who I am). Sometimes if I feel silly or whatnot I do it out of the blue, but that's pretty rare.

I wonder, is it pretty much the same thing for you other girls out there?

Cheesecheese The 4 cases I spoke of really CAN'T do half of what that showed, and for the olsons and geller, I think MORE was done, if anything! But YEAH, WHO doesn't know about makup and "airbrushing"!?!? Still, even WITH that, MANY do SOMETHING!

Aspie,

Personally, I'm fine even with some relatively plain women. I don't fit the feminist stereotype of someone that wants a stupid bimbo. I just want smart, nice, pretty, and probably in that order. But determining if a person is nice, or smart takes more time, and is harder than determining if they are pretty. Besides, with me at least, it is like I have a template of the perfect woman(appearance and body wise) the closer she fits, the more attracted I will be physically. If she turns out to be stupid, or mean, I'll just say FORGET IT!

Anyway, just trying to find the kind of person I would like is hard. AND, most of them are MARRIED anyway. 8-(

BTW you're right! You're LUCKY! Men don't generally care if a woman is "socially inept" in that way. Why should they? Granted as a couple you MIGHT have fewer friends, and he might lose out on that part that even NT men are no good at. (I have to tell you, I kind of always looked forward to that. It is almost like like requires a complete unit, and men and women are generally incomplete, but complement one another. Then again, I thought I was more like other males.) On the PLUS side it means more understanding, fewer tricks, and fewer arguments! So it even has an UP side! 8-) After all, NT women DO often do a lot to hassle kids and their husbands. Sitcoms show THAT also. Of course, even my MOTHER proved that was more than just a stereotype. I think an AS mother would generally be better.

And THANKS for showing me there is STILL A CHANCE! I wish I knew about AS 30 years ago. MAN! My only problem is that, to you, I would have looked like just another NT interested in only one thing, and nothing else.

Steve

Going on my own opinion of my looks, and a general consensus from other people, I would say that I was above average in looks. Maybe not stunning, but at least "very cute"... it is a shame that you have not seen many pretty Aspie girls... but we are out there... I have also seen pictures of pretty Aspie girls on this site. Maybe you are just unlucky in your area. I am not offended by the post at all.

It's probably a self-care issue rather than an attractiveness one... I have been told I'm attractive, but if I'm not vigilant I could easily forget to do hygiene things for myself, i.e. I might forget to bathe, change my clothes, brush my teeth, comb my hair... if I went a few weeks without doing any of those things, I'd probably look and smell pretty scary 8O.

I think Aspie girls are just much less likely to put a lot of effort into their appearance. I know I don't. I don't wear makeup, I wear comfortable clothes instead of "stylish" ones, don't wear jewelry, don't paint my nails, wear comfortable shoes, and don't style my hair. I brush it, but I don't own any "hair styling" things like hairspray or a hair dryer. Ok, I do own a hairdryer, but I've never used it on myself, it's for drying the cat when I give her a bath.

I have met a few aspie girls and they are quite attractive :) For many the natural look is either 1) Really pretty for them or 2) Damn cute ;)

I find makeup on girls quite unattractive, almost to the point of disgust. If a woman is going to wear makeup, in my opinion, it needs to be done really sparingly. Hence I suppose I might find most female aspies attractive but I haven't met any in real life (that I knew about).

I have been told by my family that I can look like a cave-man from 4000 years ago if I don't keep up the routine of change clothes, shower, shave, etc... And on the other hand if I really take care of myself I find I can look relatively acceptable to NTs, at least I believe so. But then, I probably wouldn't go out of my way to look too good, for fear of getting too much attention, as others have said already...
