I'm extremely pessimistic. I never think positive.

You summed up my thoughts perfectly.

It never ceases to amaze me that the average person seems to prefer the self-delusion of the Disney film version of life! They seem to block out all the bad stuff whereas I seem to actively seek it out - partly out of curiosity and partly as a form of self-hardening, so I know what to expect!

I am a cynic and see no reason not to be. I live in a world with governments getting increasingly more authoritarian and gleefully crush the rights of the individual, yet the band plays on and most people don't care so long as they have their circuses. I have no social life and no opportunities to change that. I have minor health problems that I can't afford to deal with. However, given all that, I still try to be a nice person to others and to do the right thing.

Mine too! It depends a great deal on my mood and stress level, and even world events. But overall I think I'm more upbeat than cynical.

I am trying to find a sufficiently large reproduction of Diogenes to hang on a wall in my office... That should provide a sufficient answer to the question of this topic...

I have a neutral view of the world around me. I prefer not to make the choice between either optimism or pessimism.

I acknowledge that I find myself in a very fortunate position, personally. Currently, I have access to clean water, an excess of affordable food, housing, heating, and electricity, safety and peace, access to a wealth of literature in bookstores, libraries, and musea, access to art, such as music and film. I pick the fruits in life, even if I do not have a flashy job or a big house. Tomorrow I could be dead, so I'll live while I'll live.

I'm a very upbeat person at the moment. If I was asked that question a few weeks ago, I might have given a different answer. I've been feeling more upbeat since I've settled things with my mum. I hope things stay that way.

Are you talking about UK or USA

I'm in the UK and I don't even have a degree yet I've managed to find a job within 3 months after not working for nearly 2 years. I don't think things are that bad if I can do that with Aspergers as well. People just need to keep applying and not expect to walk into their perfect job straight away.

The United States.

Unfortanately I find it very hard to be positive and upbeat. I have a tendancy to focus my attention on negative stuff.
People who are constantly positive even irritate me because I think that they are either fooling themselves or the people around them. I know it is unfair but I can't seem to help myself sometimes.

I like this. Suits me well.

I'm mostly cynical, though.

To be more accurate about myself, I'm a 'hopeless optimist'.

Is there a difference between a hopeless optimist and a blind optimist?

It greatly depends on the situation, but I try to be more upbeat and less cynical.
