I know eh? I absolutely, positively hate loud repetitive noises. I can't even stand ringing phones or my kitchen timer at home. At work I probably answer the phone 90 percent of the time because I can't stand the noise...even though I'm not always particularly comfortable talking to the person on the other end. What an aspie conundrum...

I've noticed the beeping in many fast food places (not just McDonalds), though it's something I usually just tune out and accept as part of the environment. I never worked in a fast food place, unless you count the Target snack bar (where we did have an ICEE machine that would beep in the same way when it ran out of syrup or started the defrost cycle)

I laughed when I was the title of this thread. I used to try to study in Wendy's sometimes and those beeps would drive me crazy! When I told my mom this she had no idea what I was talking about...never noticed these beeps...... they don't bother me if I just go to order food and leave with it.....only if I have to sit in the place and do something (talk to someone or study.....bcs the beeps are distracting)...

Worst beeping i encountered is on a commuter bus. On the way there is a person that uses the handicapped facilitates with the driver assisting him on and off. But it is a lengthy process and a loud continuous beeping sound came on whenever the system is activated until it is turned off after the process is done. Had to get a music player with noise-cancelling headphones quickly after the first time i encountered that.

Oh my gosh, Port Authority Transit buses in Pittsburgh have the same system! I drove me nuts when I rode the bus. Now that PAT has cut a lot of their routes, I don't ride and thus doesn' t bother me anymore.

I agree about McDonalds, I always try to go during an "off" hour. I am sure people think I am weird when I cover my ears when there is that beeping. You mean it happens in France too, not just an American thing? And yet, people will let it beep away, not pull up the fries. I worked at an Arby's. Not quite as much beeping but still there. But I lost that job because a district manager yelled at me while I was slicing beef, he was behind my back and I jumped. I can never work there again.

Worse is home depot and Lowes with their loud screaming announcements. "PICK UP YOUR RETURNS!! !! !" Why can't they just call the people they need to? If businesses would accommodate people on the spectrum more, I think they would have customers for life.
