Worst beeping i encountered is on a commuter bus. On the way there is a person that uses the handicapped facilitates with the driver assisting him on and off. But it is a lengthy process and a loud continuous beeping sound came on whenever the system is activated until it is turned off after the process is done. Had to get a music player with noise-cancelling headphones quickly after the first time i encountered that.
Oh my gosh, Port Authority Transit buses in Pittsburgh have the same system! I drove me nuts when I rode the bus. Now that PAT has cut a lot of their routes, I don't ride and thus doesn' t bother me anymore.
I agree about McDonalds, I always try to go during an "off" hour. I am sure people think I am weird when I cover my ears when there is that beeping. You mean it happens in France too, not just an American thing? And yet, people will let it beep away, not pull up the fries. I worked at an Arby's. Not quite as much beeping but still there. But I lost that job because a district manager yelled at me while I was slicing beef, he was behind my back and I jumped. I can never work there again.
Worse is home depot and Lowes with their loud screaming announcements. "PICK UP YOUR RETURNS!! !! !" Why can't they just call the people they need to? If businesses would accommodate people on the spectrum more, I think they would have customers for life.
