I suspect the problem is the information that I'm offering. I have specialized knowledge that many, if not most, of you could benefit from. But people just don't want to hear it. Denial is at a very high level. Anything that agrees with the general prejudices, biases and misconceptions about AS is supported and validated. (If we all agree on it, it must be true, right?) Anything that challenges those prejudices, biases and misconceptions, doesn't even go in the first ear, let alone out the other.

Geez, since when did anyone have the right to claim another person's conversation?!? "You are going to talk to me dammit, whether you want to or not!! !!"....ridiculous. Conversation is a two way street, you can't force someone to talk to you. If someone is interested in your work today, that doesn't mean they'll be interested tomorrow. Interest's change. Perhaps they read more about what you have to say and decided they didn't like it.

And, as far as your "information", your information is based on reading textbooks and psychological theorizing. The beliefs that are held here are based on life experiences. I don't care how much you read about the lives of people in the ghetto, you'll never have the experience or knowledge to tell them how they should feel about it.

What exactly is this knowledge that we could "benefit" from? All you have been doing is labeling us, how exactly does that help us? "No, no, no, listen to me, you are THIS!"......and???

Also, it seems that you are only interested in conversations with people who agree with your thoughts. What kind of conversation is that?!? It seems more like ego-building to me. There are also psychology and philosophy majors who actually have AS here, is their knowledge rubbish?

I don't mean to be too harsh, but its a little presumptious to tell people about how they should feel about something you have never experienced. I mean, offer your opinion, but don't claim to be right about it. I would never listed to any blind-man who told me that he knows more about sight than I do.

Post it in a forum like the rest of us. No personal emails necessary.

Generally if someone ends a debate with you its because they have a good reason for it.

The most common mistakes that end in walkaway are (in no particular order and not a complete list):
1. Soapboxing and not listening.
2. Belitting their opinions.
3. Personal attacks against your debate opponent.
4. Speaking in a partonizing manner.
5. Making it perfectly clear you wont budge from your opinions no matter what they say therefore rendering the entire process of debate pointless.

Chances are you broke one of the rules.

If AS is a personality type, then that would suggest Autism is too. I refuse to accept that.

I'm actually GLAD that autism isn't simply a personality disorder, etc... It means that what I have given up got me what people have generally been most positive about. YEAH! I may have said it before, but the sensory skewing in Autism isn't imagined, and isn't something to be just wished away. So either it is an INCREDIBLE coincidence, or cursory examination shows it isn't just a personality difference. As for what has been given up? If EVERYONE gave it up, it might benefit them, and would not be a loss to me. So it can't TRULY be considered a loss, just a difference. Even the sensory skewing has a definite plus side.

I think the original poster of this thread saw "what about bob?" too many times, and thought it was a documentary.

Evolution doesn't define a difference between "disorder" and "personality traits" or "cognitive style". When arguing about the differences in such things, what we're really arguing about is semantics, not biology.

Biology is concrete; labels, words, and ideas are symbolic.

Ahem. Aspergers is NOT a disability. I agree, you're just a poor, pathetic old man, trying to talk to people about things that they don't want to hear about. You come off arogant and cold. If you're trying to shuttle around some "secret" information, who's to believe you or even WANT to listen. you probably come on to strong in you're messages, get creepy, and expect people to stay around. you have no sympathy com ing from THIS direction.

It's ironic really. Geezer said he was leaving because he thought nobody wanted to talk to him - yet he has all these replies.
