Mine were bad as a child. But yet I could still do PE and tie my shoes and ride a bike, button buttons and zip zippers but yet I was diagnosed as being mild to moderate dyspraxic. :?

In high school I had a hard time with warm ups but I still did them doing my best. I couldn't even jump on the stairs on the bleachers like the other kids could on one foot during warm ups. I used the rail and I was slow at it. I was told it was my balance. Then in my senior year I found warm ups a lot easier after I had been walking on the tread mill during the school year. it improved my balance somehow.

Now today I think they are great. I thought they were great back in high school too.

I managed to get a driving license, but never drive now because I'm sure I would cause an accident if I did. I can't even imagine myself driving now. I'm very poor at sports. Whatever sport I try, I'm just too clumsy and I had a very hard time at PE classes at schools because of that.

On the other hand, my hand-writing is normal. I can use my fingers well to do tasks involving many small things.

I seem to be ok with my hands and fingers, but I'm extremely hopeless with things that require coordinating the whole body.

For me, it varies. Some days I don't have much trouble, while on other days, I'm bumping into things or dropping stuff, and my hands are shaky. I think stress and feeling rushed have a lot to do with it.

I don't ride a bike or drive. I didn't start tying my own shoes until I was 14. I always had a lot of problems in gym class. I still have a first grade report card that says I couldn't catch a ball, do a jumping jack, or hop on one foot. I also had a lot of trouble walking and dribbling a ball.

I remember once in grade school having to go in a room with someone and them doing a test where I had to walk in a straight line across the floor (like in a sobriety test). I'm not sure if everyone had to do that or if it was just me.

To this day I can still trip over my own feet, tiny bumps on the ground, or nothing. A little over a year ago I even managed to rip my big toenail mostly off just by bumping one foot against the other when getting up off the floor.

Same for me.

Yes, my motor coordination is poor. I've never learned how to ride a bike, and I've always sucked at sports. The only sport I'm not awful at (though I can't say I'm very good at it) it's karate, that is also improving my balance at the moment.

I tend to be good with anything to do with hand-eye co-ordination. I'm good at drawing, writing neatly and making things. I'm OK at sports. However, I'm very clumsy. I walk into things and trip over things all the time.

Is this quite a typical autism / Aspie trait?

I never was able to learn to ride a bike, I couldn't get the standard way of tying shoe laces and had to learn my own (which words just as well!), was useless at catching a ball in school (nobody wanted me on their team), frequently walk into things, generally clumsy, took me over 200 driving lessons to pass my test (although that was probably more to do with either executive dysfunction or communication issues).

I can't ride a bike, drive a car, tie a knot, etc. I still can't fold a piece of paper in half perfectly. Always turns out lopsided. Can't kick a ball so it flies in the air (always ends up "bunting" in kickball or whatever). Wasn't able to cut with scissors whatsoever as a child. I have acquired that skill, and I'm a pretty good drawer, but that's about it.

I've gotten control of my fine motor skills but still have issues with gross motor skills. It's part of my SPD.

Took me a long time to master tying shoelaces and I still battle with them coming loose, especially while running, so I prefer to use a special kind of lace that doesn't come undone, you just slip them on. Cannot tie a tie, luckily I never have to wear one. Was also useless at catching a ball. Write quite nicely, left handed only, but use a scissors right-handed only! Prefer to use a keyboard than to write though. Whe I use a mouse pad to save files to folders etc, I often touch the middle button accidentally and end up creating copies of copies "ad nauseum" without meaning to!
Bumped my watch off my arm once whern running, by knocking it against a signpost. Have taken a few tumbles too, but pick myself up and restart!

I can barely tie my shoelaces, have atrocious handwriting (but amazingly good printing) and can't tie a tie no matter how much I practice but in terms of hockey or baseball there are some days where I look like a professional and others where I literally can barely stand on my own two feet without falling over like I'm drunk. I think a league writeup said it best: I put on a Dr. Jeckyl and Mr. Hyde performance and am consistent with being wildly inconsistent.

Yeah.....both my fine and gross motor skills are terrible. I couldn't tie my shoelaces until really late and still can't do it well (they come undone all the time), I can't sew, can't cut paper, tying and untying knots is hard, don't really hold my knife right when I have to cut something like meat and make a mess, I can hold a pencil and write neatly with effort but I had a lot of trouble as a kid and had to work with an OT to learn this skill. As for gross motor skills I was awful at sports, my high school gym teacher once said I was "the most uncoordinated person *he'd* ever seen in *his* whole life". and I'm super clumsy.

I have learnt to cope with certain fine motor issues and as a result I have learnt to touch type and draw quite detailed pictures of buildings. I can ride a bike, but it took four years on stabilizers and a further 6 years without before I was able to do it safely. Luckily I never had a growth spurt so I have been able to ride the same bike for over 10 years! On the other hand my coordination is extremely poor in pretty much every other area. I have problems walking, fall regularly, trip regularly, can't catch a ball if I try, can't walk in a straight line, pick things up and much much more... I also have Tourettes which makes my body tic violently and that can make me lose my balance.

I noticed that a lot of you had trouble doing your shoelaces......me too when i was younger..even now i have a certain way i do mine that has been the same since i was younger..also catching things seems to be hard for some of us..me too never could kick the ball right or catch it!
I always came across as clumsy in front of others....it put me off even trying..ended up hating sports. :(
