In my ears it has always sounded like a dog's name or something.

Revising the DSM IV was a good thing. It removed homosexuality as a mental disorder, as well as other inaccurate diagnostic criteria.

Asperger's is Autism, so it' doesn't bother me.

Hey, I take exception!
I never got a diagnoses of being Aspergers, but I am an intelligent Autistic. I don't like the thought of people thinking being autistic rather than aspergers makes them less than they were. It makes it seem as though aspergers, which is just a branch of the spectrum, is somehow better and more acceptable than being autistic. "Demote" was a poor choice of words.....
There, rant over! :D
I agree with the people who replied already; I think its a good thing.

Well, the school I work for is happy, because the three of the "just barely reaches the Asperger diagnosis", kids will get their some of their services pulled. (saving $$$). OT, PT and speech. Now they have to be evaluated again. And their services won't be Federally mandated, so the school can play fast and loose.

If you are a parent of a special needs kid, it's gonna get ugly.

Does anyone know if NVLD is covered for services like Autism?

Let the "your kid is cured, and we are removing services" games begin.

Ugh.....

I doubt that will happen, also if they just barely reached the diagnosis then they don't need services.

Um, no...homosexuality was removed as a mental disease in the 7th printing of the DSM-II in 1974.

I don't care; changing the name of the label for my issues won't change my issues.

In the new manual only the term Autistic and Autism will remain.

Aspies will be demoted to Autie.

Do you really believe this is a demotion, or are you just trying to illicit a specific type of response from people?

Your equation of the name change to a demotion is extremely offensive, OP. I find your "Aspie supremacist" attitude very disturbing. :x
