Im pretty damn drunk right now so I only bothered to read one or two sentences, but from what I remember reading it seems like you are talking about a similar effect to either nitrous oxide or cigarettes, which I think both work by starving the brain for oxygen..... someone probably mentioned something along those lines already, but like I said I'm drunk and couldnt be bothered reading....... why aren't I in bed?

Neither nitrous oxide or cigarettes work by reducing oxygen in the brain. In fact, contrary to common perception, nitrous actually dilates the blood vessels in your brain, increasing the flow of oxygen (unless of course you hold the balloon or whatever else you're inhaling from over your face for a really long time, which is never advised).

I've done something similar to the bag trick, by what I can describe as 'hard-holding' my breath (by inhaling my lung capacity of air, then trying to breathe it out, with no means of escape). I've only really done it when I was really angry/upset. It made me calm down, but it also got me quite disorientated, with stars in my eyes.
