My daughter's the one with the diagnosis. My husband, her Daddy, is an engineer. He studied electrical and electronic engineering at uni and works as a telecommunications engineer.

My Dad was a wages clerk, but he started an apprenticeship as a draughtsman (which never worked out due to a clash with the boss) and he always thought he should have been an architect or something along those lines.

My dad and his dad were both engineers. I don't know what my grandad's dad did ;)

I studied electrical and electronic engineering (because it was both easy and interesting) but I don't work as an engineer.

I found a way to use my tech skills which is way more interesting and fulfilling (although I do struggle at times because it is a very people oriented job and I have difficulties with that due to my ASD).

No, just farmers and more farmers on both sides. My grandfather on my mother's side is very good at math, he can do mental math very quickly. My other grandfather can barely read.

My brother is in college w/ an engineering major. (He looked over my shoulder and says to say that he is really smart and awesome.) My aunt (mom's side) is a calculus teacher.

Both of my parents are engineers (industrial chemistry & microbiology).

Also, my grandma is a doctor (oncologist), my grandpa and aunt are pharmacists, and my other grandma is an architect.

And I am none of the above :D

I think my uncle is some kind of electrical engineer, and his son (my cousin) majored in computer engineering. But nobody in my family besides me has AS, including my uncle and cousin. And I believe I'm the only "classic" scientist in my family.

Apparently I'm the only one here with a dumb family.

My recent ancestors were sharecroppers - i.e. borderline Serfs who somehow got control of their land after the first civil war in the US........
Nothing technical based. The closest thing to that would be EMT/Paramedic (father). Mother is a civil servant.......

Nope, unless my uncle counts. Seems too distant.

I'm the daughter of a novelist and a librarian, though my brother is a programmer and one of my degrees is in computer science... that's as close as I get.

I forgot that I have an uncle (who died when I was 4-5) who was an engineer.

And, my mother would've been in some STEM field if certain deaths and other things hadn't happened.

I have Asperger's but none of my grandparents or parents were/are engineers. However, my father is a math teacher and can multiply 4 digit numbers in his head faster than a person can do them on a calculator.

My father and his father were in business (family tradition), but both would probably have been happier in engineering. They both liked to build things. My mother's father was a scientific researcher for a while, according to one account (but someone else told me he was a teacher, so I don't know, maybe he was a super-spy?), and her two brothers are/were in science/engineering.

However, I tried working in an engineering firm, and the vast majority of engineers there were normal men, not even real geeks. It was not a geek-friendly firm. It paid too well. Once a field starts paying well the geeks get shoved aside. The real geeks were working in startups - the kind of firm where you never know if you're getting paid next week or not.

I'm not too happy with the engineering myth because of my experience in that company, supposedly a great place to work, if you're an engineer. But not necessarily if you're a geek. Or female.
