I do remember reading at least one person's post on WP that despite there being no childhood information, the clinician decided there was if not overwhelming evidence, at least strong enough evidence from the traits displayed that warranted a DX.
This was probably me. I did not want my parents involved in my diagnosis for a number of reasons. And there isn't any other person who would've been an adult when I was child around.
I have now been assessed three times - psychiatrist with particular interest in adults with ASDs (May to July 2011), an autism specialist (May-June 2012) and also a psychologist (November 2012 while I was an inpatient in psychiatric hospital, where they had plenty of time to observe me).
For my first assessment, I provided school reports, and a transcription of a general conversation I had with my mother about my early development - these documents along with other questionnaires etc that I & my husband completed and the first pyschiatrist notes along with psychiatrist reports from my current psychiatrist (who I've seen since March 2012) were passed on to the second and third assessors.
All three clinicians diagnose me firmly with an Austism Spectrum Disorder (Asperger Syndrome has been mentioned but they all prefer the more generic ASD terminology) with the statement that although early history is perhaps lacking, there is more than substantial evidence to support the diagnosis.
