I have a very narrow interest in music, as with all my interests. I can't handle listening to a variety of genres because most of them I find impossible to relate to in the same way I try to relate to people. I find I can't follow a lot of songs and their intended "feeling" or through the lyrics which make no sense half the time anyways. I like electronic music strictly for this reason, lack of a human element to complicate things. It's like listening to technology that is alive, every synth has it's own personality...I love it.

When I was about 4 years old. There was this song called "Get ready" done by a band called "Rare earth" and for some reason, When the chorus line of the song played. It scared the living s**t out of me. I would scream at my mother "TURN IT OFF!! ! TURN IT OFF!! !". Now that I am older now and listen to that song. It no longer invoke a response from me anymore. I still can't figure out what it was about the song that would've set me off.

I enjoy music, i always have.
Whether or not a person enjoys music and to what extent varies dependingly on the individual whether or not they are on the spectrum or NT is irrelevant. IMO, i don't see this as a spectrum issue.

One of my mum's friends have always got their music channels on every time we go round there. They're all perfect examples of NTs. Personally I wouldn't want to always have music always on. Some people love music more than others, it's got nothing to do with who's got an ASD and who hasn't.

I thought liking music was a mainstream thing.

No.
I like music a lot, and according to some people I even have a bit of musical talent.
But I met NTs that liked music a lot more than me, and that also had more musical talent than I do.

I love music, but I don't just listen. I explore the rhythms and count the time signatures. Sometimes I imagine the notation. I break songs down and focus on individual parts, to better know how all the parts compliment each other and how it all comes together.

I'm also very prone to getting hung up on certain drum fills or guitar riffs, and there's not always a real reason why; sometimes I'll just play a song on repeat to hear them again and again.

I don't think loving music a whole bunch is unique to autism, by the way.

But I love music. I have it on all the time. I used to come home from school, and then immediately sit on my computer to log in to Yahoo! and listen to LaunchCAST. Music was "safe". Now, I listen to Pandora, and when Pandora is under maintenance, I listen to DI.fm.

I'm also somewhat distantly related to a music savant.

Wow, I'm surprised at the responses. Music is one of my special interests, but there has been research that shows that music is very therapeutic for people on the spectrum and there is of great benefit to listening to it. Although you don't have to be like me and listen to songs Over and over again, I just thought that some people may have discovered this little secret. Also, not only that, I feel that Music is the Perfect combination of logic and emotion. The feeling I get when I play (drummer) or listen to music with a nice rhythm is indescribable; I can feel it sooo much, one of the only times I can actually feel. Also, drumming has really helped me work on my coordination ALOT. Anything can be learned, or I should say more accurately, I can learn anything. Why Aspies let people put them in a box, telling us what we can and can't do, I will never understand.

I really like music, but it doesn't rule my life. I'm more crazy about video games, lol.

I didn't use to like music, but then I discovered that good music existed, and now I breathe music. I say there is definitely a major difference between the way introverts and extroverts enjoy music, so that might explain why autistic people might enjoy music more sometimes.

I absolutely love music, it always has been a major part of my life, and it always will be. It is always there for me, even at the worst of times. It is my most loyal friend, the only one that has never left me, never been angry with me, and never wronged me.

I love music, mostly electronic, but some rock, metal, and soundtrack music. I listen to all types of electronic, and I like to deconstruct the song in my mind, and try to hear all the different layers of sounds that make up the song as a whole. I find this very relaxing, even dubstep. For rock, metal, and soundtrack, I usually listen to really dark sounding songs, as they evoke the most vivid images and emotions in my mind. For this reason, most of the metal I listen to is screamo.

As everyone knows, music = life for me. I must listen to music before I go to work, when I'm on break, when I'm off work/any other time. When I was at school and university, there wasn't a minute I didn't have headphones on, listening to music (save for the few years of P.E.).

I love music!

I also use it to escape all the input from the world, to dive into my fantasy. I just turn on my mp3 player and listen to music in breaks at school instead of talking to others. I just prefer doing that.
